Background

Chen Xun was a famed swordsman of an earlier generation, known as the Sword Master and regarded as a powerhouse who had suppressed an era. He repeatedly defeated Golden Crocodile Douluo and wielded the Seven Kill Sword at a level later described as its fullest expression. 3 8

Seeking a higher realm of swordsmanship, Chen Xun challenged Tang Chen of the Clear Sky Sect. His defeat left his Dao heart shattered; he sealed his sword, withdrew from worldly affairs, and eventually died in melancholy. 3 His son, Chen Jianjun, later followed the same pursuit by challenging Qian Daoliu, dying from the injuries he sustained without regretting his choice. Chen Xun's awareness of his son's resolve became central to his own decision to resume the path of the sword. 3

Chen Luo resurrected Chen Xun at the Chen family gravesite for 500 million Shock Value. After accepting Chen Luo's explanation of the God Realm and the possibility of pursuing endless higher realms, Chen Xun willingly joined the preliminary selection group and resolved to earn enough Contribution Points to resurrect Chen Jianjun. 2 3 4
