Background / History

Tang Chen was the former Sect Master and Great Elder of the Clear Sky Sect. Known as the Clear Sky Douluo, he was regarded as the strongest mortal Soul Master of his era and one of the two great mountains of the Soul Master world alongside Qian Daoliu. His Level 99 strength and Clear Sky Sect secret techniques allowed him to lead the Clear Sky Sect to the position of the continent's number one sect. 3 21

In the past, Chen Xun challenged Tang Chen in pursuit of a breakthrough. Tang Chen won the spar, shattering Chen Xun's Dao heart and driving the swordsman into retirement for decades. 3 41

While undertaking the Asura God's inheritance, Tang Chen reached the eighth trial. The Rakshasa God interfered at his weakest moment, allowing the Nine-Headed Bat King to parasitize him. He lost his mind, became the King of Slaughter, and remained trapped in the City of Slaughter. 21 34 55

Chen Luo tracked down Tang Chen's possessed body, killed the Nine-Headed Bat King, and restored Tang Chen with vitality spiritual liquid. Once awake, Tang Chen accepted Chen Luo's invitation to the God Realm Preliminary Group and received a Myriad Laws Mirror. 31 32 34

After learning that inheriting an existing godhood would permanently restrict his future path, Tang Chen abandoned the Asura God's inheritance. He planted the Asura Divine Sword in the City of Slaughter and resolved to forge his own cultivation path. 35 36

Tang Chen subsequently returned to the Clear Sky Sect, rebuked its elders for choosing seclusion after its conflict with Martial Soul Hall, and ordered the Seventh Elder to find Tang Hao. He retained authority as Great Elder while leaving Tang Xiao as Sect Master, intending to focus on higher cultivation unless the sect faced a crisis. 40

Personality

Tang Chen is intensely committed to self-directed cultivation. Although he had nearly completed the Asura God's inheritance, he rejected its promised godhood after learning it would cap his future growth. His pursuit is not merely strength, but a path that remains open beyond conventional limits. 35 36

He is proud and battle-hungry, readily accepting clashes with other Peerless Douluo and treating powerful opposition as an opportunity.
