Seeking sympathy through tales of an unfortunate past was something only the weak did.

Even without the power to move mountains and fill seas, with Amosta's strength of will, he had no need to earn anyone's sympathy by recounting his origins.

The reason he was willing to tell Amelia's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Dett—his nominal grandparents—some things about those years was, on the one hand, because he was somewhat curious about the elderly couple. On the other, after vaguely guessing who he was, the remorse and guilt they showed had not been feigned. Amosta was therefore willing to ease some of the burdens in their hearts.

If Bellina Dett—the woman who had brought him into this world—knew that her parents had forgiven her and regretted their indifference back then, perhaps her spirit in heaven would find some comfort.

Amosta did not tell Mr. and Mrs. Dett that their daughter had drowned herself in the river. He only said that she had eventually left, leaving the elderly couple room to imagine.

He and Remus had not managed to leave after lunch as planned, mainly because Mr. and Mrs. Dett had insisted on keeping them.

Perhaps because of their guilt, they wanted to hear more from Amosta about his life in the orphanage and his school life after entering Hogwarts.

Amelia and Remus were interested in this as well, so Amosta casually spoke of a few things from the past, merely to pass the time.

But after he and Remus had dinner there as well, Mr. and Mrs. Dett could no longer find any excuse to keep them, and could only let the two leave.

"That poor child—"

Watching the door close and listening as the footsteps outside gradually faded away, Mrs. Dett covered her mouth. Tears welled in her reddened eyes.
