Background

Kudo Shinichi is drugged with APTX-4869 by Gin and physically transformed into a child. He awakens injured and disoriented, initially protesting when Tokisaki Kurumi addresses him as a child; after seeing his reflection, he conceals his identity and leaves the hospital without explaining the transformation. He subsequently lives under the name Edogawa Conan at Mouri Kogoro's residence. 1 2 26

His altered body forces him to balance criminal investigations with protecting his identity. His unusually mature deductions repeatedly attract suspicion or dismissal from adults, particularly Mouri Kogoro. 7 9

Appearance

Conan has the body and outward appearance of a young child, despite retaining Kudo Shinichi's mind and memories. He is initially found wearing adult clothing after his transformation. 1 2

Despite his distrust of Kurumi, Conan can reassess his position when presented with new information. Learning that she acted against Organization drug dealers leads him to consider limited cooperation in pursuit of an APTX-4869 antidote and the protection of lives. 26 27

Transformation and First Encounter

After being drugged and reduced to a child's body, Conan meets Kurumi, who finds him unconscious and photographs him in his new form. Their first crisis follows when Kurumi kills robbers threatening Conan and his friends; Conan negotiates for the others' release despite his discomfort at bargaining with a criminal. 1 2 4

Art Museum Murder

Conan identifies Director Ochiai as Boss Manaka's likely killer, but Kurumi has destroyed the decisive evidence and supplied Ochiai with an alibi. The case becomes Conan's first clear indication that Kurumi can manipulate both a crime scene and the people around it. 7 9

Moon Shadow Island

On Moon Shadow Island, Conan investigates Kurumi's connection to Aso Narumi and the escalating attacks on the people responsible for the Aso family tragedy. He confronts Kurumi directly after discovering her role in the kidnappings and planned killings, refuses her proposed alliance, and attempts to stop her revenge. 20 23 24 25

Kurumi later provides information about APTX-4869 and promises to help locate an antidote. Conan remains wary of her, but begins considering cooperation after learning she had previously opposed Organization drug trafficking. 26 27

Tokyo Investigations

Conan assists in solving the cafe restroom murder alongside Kurumi, who supplies key deductions and subdues the culprit. He remains alarmed by both her combat ability and her Organization connections. 36 37

Kurumi subsequently exploits Conan's surveillance device to lure him to the docks overnight with fabricated Organization intelligence. After falling for the scheme and catching a cold, Conan becomes more cautious and resolves to expose the Organization's crimes. 38 39

Cat Cafe Investigation

When Kurumi arranges to rent the storefront beneath Mouri Kogoro's detective agency for a cat cafe, Conan treats the plan as another reason to investigate her intentions. He later visits with a detective novel as a thank-you gift while also trying to learn where she lives. 43 44
