The mine cart came to a slow stop at the entrance to the Underground Vault amid a series of mechanical clicks.
The massive entrance doors were tightly shut. Andy stood before them, hesitating for a moment.
It was too quiet!
Abnormally quiet.
Ever since Andy had destroyed the vault doors, Gringotts's alarms should have been sounding. By all rights, Gringotts's guards should have rushed in to capture him by now.
Yet all the way here, Andy had not seen so much as the shadow of a goblin.
It was far too strange! After thinking it over, Andy could only arrive at one relatively reasonable explanation—the Death Eaters had already arrived, and they had helped Andy eliminate Gringotts's guards.
And right now...
They might have already withdrawn, or they might be lying in ambush outside, waiting to attack Andy.

Andy pondered briefly.
In Andy's view, if it was an ambush, then let alone a volley of Killing Curses, even a volley of Exploding Charms would be difficult for him to withstand.
Andy might be powerful, but he was not a god.
Fragile physical defenses and virtually nonexistent magical defenses were a wizard's greatest weaknesses.
After giving it some thought, Andy waved his wand and summoned the Fat Cat Patronus.
"Go out and take a look," Andy ordered.
The Fat Cat Patronus swished its tail, then found a concealed spot and passed through the wall, sneakily peering at the situation on the other side.
The situation in the hall was more or less what Andy had expected.
When Andy had broken into Gringotts, he had used Death Chill to freeze the entire hall, locking the goblins' bodies and minds in ice.
Seeing such a scene, the Death Eaters naturally realized that someone had broken into Gringotts.
There was no need to
