The Brain Room and Death in the Magical Sense

Andy gave him a strange look.

Though the little old man looked like a complete hack, Andy had a feeling there was something deeply mysterious about him. Maybe he was just overthinking it.

An Unspeakable from the Department of Mysteries... he couldn't really be a hack, could he? Besides, he was the one who had appeared tonight.

Andy considered himself reasonably capable, and he knew many secrets of the Wizarding World. Since the Department of Mysteries had foreseen his arrival, they would not have sent a hack to receive him.

Still, Andy had no interest in getting to the bottom of it.

What if he was simply being paranoid? Thinking too highly of himself would be rather embarrassing.

Andy swept his gaze around the room and asked, "Which door do we take?"

There were twelve Black Doors in the circular room, all identical in appearance. Whenever Andy had explored the Department of Mysteries before, he had simply relied on luck, going wherever he happened to end up.

Now that he had run into a "guide," Andy did not mind looking into the pattern behind the twelve Black Doors.

"Follow me!"

The old man did not seem to care. He casually picked one of the Black Doors and motioned for Andy to follow.

When he pushed open the door, the Brain Room was indeed on the other side.

"Is there some pattern to these doors?" Andy asked curiously.

"You'll naturally know once you become an Unspeakable," the old man said.

"Hmm..."

After thinking for a moment, Andy asked, "Can an Unspeakable... resign?"

"Of course!"

The old man answered, "But even if you resign, you still won't be able to reveal the Department of Mysteries' secrets."
