Background / History

Tsunade is the Senju Clan's princess and nominal representative, as well as the granddaughter of Hashirama Senju and Tobirama Senju. Her younger brother, Nawaki, and her lover, Dan Katō, died before the main events, losses that contributed to her despondency and hemophobia. During this period, she squandered much of her inherited wealth and mission earnings in casinos and taverns. 11 12 158

Despite being unable to return to the operating table at first, Tsunade accepted Orochimaru's payment to instruct Nara Kagetsu for two months. She trained Kagetsu and Shizune in the Mystical Palm Technique and later tested their progress in the Mystical Palm Technique, Delicate Illness Extraction Technique, and Chakra Scalpel. Her teaching was demanding but highly effective. 11 12

She eventually left Konoha with Shizune, avoiding both war and the pressure placed upon her as a Senju symbol. Orochimaru later sent Kagetsu to find her with an offer to revive Nawaki and Dan, which convinced her to return.
