Nature and Refinement

Blood Qi is the name given to the usable energy present throughout the human body. It enables movement, muscular contraction, and physical force; greater Blood Qi allows a person to exert greater strength. Human martial arts are founded on methods for accumulating and using this energy against fierce beasts. 12

Food is Blood Qi’s source. After meeting the body’s ordinary needs, excess nutrients may be converted either into active Blood Qi or into fat for long-term storage. Blood Qi manuals forcibly divert energy that would normally become fat into Blood Qi instead. 12

Perception

Blood Qi cannot be directly observed like an external object. “Finding” it instead involves forming an accurate cognitive system for one’s own energy cycle—tracking where Blood Qi begins, where it is stored, how much is present, and how it can be used. 15

• The Nine Palaces Blood-Intercepting Manual is a Blood Qi training manual given to Su Hao by Wu Yuntian. 12
• Visualization of the manual causes a small portion of absorbed nutrients to be intercepted and refined into Blood Qi. 16
• Mind Studies provide the training methods required to refine Blood Qi rather than merely understand it. 16

Control

Controlling Blood Qi requires consciousness to overcome bodily instinct. According to Wu Yuntian, this is achieved by strengthening one’s spirit and vitality. 27

• Moving Blood Qi creates new effects and allows it to be transferred outside the body to inflict damage, such as empowering a branch strongly enough to pierce stone. 22
• At age thirteen, Su Hao completes a system for micro-controlling Blood Qi through encoded brainwaves, visualization, and symbolic commands. 132
• Blood Qi capacity is limited by the body; forcing conversion beyond the body’s tolerance is dangerous. 17

Blood Qi Strengthening Wave

The Blood Qi Strengthening Wave is the name Su Hao gives to a special signal emitted by the brain during mental visualization. The signal causes the body to prioritize converting nutrients into Blood Qi as though Blood Qi were urgently needed. 17

• Su Hao learns to consciously control the Wave’s generation and dissipation, sharply increasing his Blood Qi conversion rate beyond that of the Nine Palaces Blood-Intercepting Manual. 17
• The Wave can help push through Blood Qi bottlenecks by adjusting its intensity. 17
• Wu Yuntian is unable to perceive the Wave despite extensive effort. Su Hao concludes that ordinary people cannot consciously detect it and that his own success depended on Little Light’s data analysis. 21
• Su Hao later makes simplifying warrior advancement and Blood Qi transformation a long-term objective. 53

Elite Blood Qi

Elite Blood Qi is a refined form of ordinary Blood Qi. It is created by separating impurities from ordinary Blood Qi through high-speed rotation and centrifugal force. 27

• Su Hao’s centrifugal separation method is stated to be more than ten times faster than the primitive oscillation method. 27
• Elite Blood Qi is colorless and responds to thought more readily than ordinary Blood Qi. 27
• It can be moved to any part of the body and used to coat weapons; Su Hao channels it across a short blade and drives the blade to its hilt into a stone floor. 27
• Ordinary warriors require prolonged accumulation to obtain Elite Blood Qi, since both ordinary Blood Qi refinement and its subsequent conversion are inefficient. 28

Rune Interactions

Blood Qi can be consumed, transformed, or directed through rune structures. 59 66

• Extraction rune — Draws Blood Qi essence from a living creature into a small Blood Qi crystal. Such crystals can help a martial artist break through Blood Qi-intensity bottlenecks, but extraction rapidly drains the target’s life force and causes death. 59
• Force conversion — Blood Qi passed through a simple rune structure can be consumed and converted into force. 66
• Pre-inscribed runes — Su Hao theorizes that a material capable of constraining Blood Qi could be embedded along rune paths in weapons or armor, allowing immediate activation by injecting Blood Qi. 74
• Rune Blood Qi System — Su Hao later possesses an inscribed internal system through which large quantities of Blood Qi can flow, surge, and remain dormant. 349

Later Research

• In a later body, Su Hao confirms that Blood Qi can still be refined and that its capacity is greater than in his previous Martial World, reinforcing his conclusion that Blood Qi objectively exists as life energy. 91
• After feeding Blood Qi into a Source Artifact and observing a faint glow, Su Hao considers the unconfirmed possibility that Blood Qi can be converted into Source. 548
