Background / History

Zhao Huai was the former Crown Prince of the Great Yan Dynasty and a transmigrator who inherited a body with poor cultivation aptitude. After Great Yan fell, he fled south through war, plague, and famine, surviving where those around him died by relying on a golden copper coin that could divine fortune and misfortune. He eventually settled in Jin Province City, sold palace valuables, opened Huai Pawnshop, and spent three years living quietly among commoners. 1 22

Initially, Zhao Huai had no desire to avenge Great Yan. He viewed the fallen dynasty as someone else's feud and sought only a peaceful life and immortality through cultivation. His careful concealment of his cultivation allowed him to appear as an ordinary pawnshop owner despite his growing strength. 1 22 25

To evade an ominous divination, Zhao Huai visited a matchmaker and met Yu Qinghan. Though intimidated by her military background and cultivation, he found common ground with her in their desire to escape conflict and pursue a stable life. They married soon afterward in Jin Province City. 3 5 12

His concealed life ended as Demon and Monster activity, assassinations, and the re-emergence of Great Yan's national fortune drew cultivators, old officials, and rival Immortal Sects to him. After his identity was recognized by Song Heqing and the Great Yan remnants, Zhao Huai gradually accepted his position as the dynasty's core while attempting to leave day-to-day restoration work to trusted subordinates. 113 116 123 137

Appearance

Zhao Huai is a tall, handsome young man with a composed and refined bearing. Even before his later breakthroughs, Yu Qinghan noted his unusually healthy appearance and energy; as his cultivation rose, his physique became noticeably stronger and more imposing. He is frequently associated with white robes, particularly during his appearances as a swordsman and Great Yan Crown Prince. 5 18 172 183

  • Sword-like eyebrows and starry eyes. 5
  • A healthy, well-built body strengthened by cultivation and Destiny fusion. 5 18
  • Often wears white robes when acting publicly as a cultivator or Great Yan leader. 137 172 183
  • Possesses an increasingly cold and majestic aura after condensing his Golden Core. 183

Personality

Zhao Huai is cautious, pragmatic, and strongly attached to a quiet life. He habitually uses divination before major decisions, conceals his strength, and avoids relationships or alliances that might expose his secrets. Even when approached by Lu Wanqiu during the Lantern Woman investigation, he deliberately chose another route rather than risk prolonged cooperation. 1 66

He is not naturally ambitious for political power. Although his status as Great Yan's Crown Prince eventually makes him the dynasty's central figure, Zhao Huai initially treats restoration as a burden and prefers to cultivate behind the scenes. His outlook remains flexible: he rejects fatalism and believes that problems should be faced when they arrive rather than feared in advance. 116 123 157

In battle, Zhao Huai is calm, decisive, and ruthless toward enemies who threaten others. He can kill Demon Lords without hesitation, yet repeatedly acts to save captives, defend human cultivators, and protect his family. 112 183 211 245

Zhao Huai is devoted to Yu Qinghan and deeply values family. He refused the Exquisite Fairy Palace's dual-cultivation proposal partly because he was married, remained determined to reunite with Yu Qinghan despite their opposing political positions, and reacted with fury when Zhao Ruyue was taken by the Demon Sect. 119 159 237
