Background
Jie La Er was a newly recruited Knight before becoming captain of the Evening Star Squad. In Year 236, he led Lyra’s elite Evening Star Squad into the deepest part of the Contaminated Land without orders; the entire squad was believed wiped out, while Jie La Er alone returned claiming to have lost his memories. Lyra branded the event its most heinous betrayal and demoted him from the Exploration Unit to the Guard Unit. 75
Before the incident, he adopted Ian and Ina after their parents died in a contamination accident. Ian later joined the Evening Star Squad, while Ina remained devoted to Jie La Er despite the accusations surrounding him. 106 130
For ten years, Jie La Er pursued the truth of the Evening Star incident while living in isolation on Lyra’s outskirts. He remained a member of the Skeleton Corps, though many colleagues regarded him as a disgraced traitor. 73 78
His investigation exposes contamination among Lyra’s authorities, the manipulation of collective memory by Lyra City, and the New Pursuit Society’s plan to use divine remnants to strengthen a New God. 87 100 143
At the end of Lyra’s crisis, Jie La Er learns that Lyra’s divine body is incomplete and chooses to become an anchor point within it, preventing Lyra’s potential chaos from threatening the world. 156
Appearance
Jie La Er is a heavily mechanized Knight who carries a worn Chainsaw Sword. His metal body is frequently damaged or malfunctioning, and he relies on prosthetic repairs to remain combat-capable.
- Often expressionless and quiet. 73
- Carries a large Chainsaw Sword. 73
- Has a left eye capable of perceiving contamination and magical power. 72
- Uses numerous old Evening Star relics as anti-contamination tools. 87
- Enters Overload mode, causing his mechanical devices to roar and white steam to rise from his body. 104 153
Personality
Jie La Er is principled, restrained, and deeply committed to Lyra. Even after being treated as a traitor and hunted by the Skeleton Corps, he continues investigating the forces endangering the city rather than abandoning it. 98 101
He is willing to die for the truth, but fears becoming a greater contamination under Bai Wei’s influence. His caution toward Bai Wei persists even after entering multiple agreements with him. 75 89
Though emotionally distant, Jie La Er is protective of children and treats capable people as equals. He pays Ju fairly for repairing him, worries about exposing her to danger, and continues to care for Ian and Ina as his children. 106 110 111
Abilities & Skills
Mechanized Body
Jie La Er possesses extensive mechanical prosthetics and combat modifications.
- Can continue moving despite severe damage by removing metal fragments lodged in his body. 107
- His body can malfunction or wear down, leaving him unable to fight effectively without repairs. 108 111
- Ju later repairs most of his body and restores his basic functionality. 111
Overload
Overload forces Jie La Er’s mechanical body beyond normal limits for explosive combat power.
- Enhances the speed and force of his mechanical limbs. 97
- Lets him deliver hundreds of rapid mechanical punches, reducing a contaminant to flesh and mud. 97
- Enables powerful Chainsaw Sword attacks against monsters. 104
- Produces white steam as an aftereffect. 153
- Places strain on his already damaged mechanical body. 108 143
Chainsaw Sword
Jie La Er’s primary weapon is a Chainsaw Sword, including a blade given to Da Ke more than ten years earlier. 120
- Can tear open and mutilate contaminated creatures. 104
- Used to threaten and interrogate Knights with illegal mechanical modifications. 94
- Can be inserted into an old contamination-detection machine to execute a level-five contaminated subject. 75 96
- Requires maintenance and was at one point left with the Skeleton Corps for repairs. 98
Left Eye
Jie La Er’s left eye, connected to Bai Wei’s power, grants unnatural perception.
- Allows him to see magical power and arcane energy. 72
- Helps him perceive hidden contamination and the motives of corrupted figures. 153

- Bishop Huo Er Man’s key — given to him by Ku De as a means of directly contacting the bishop. 100
