At noon, the teachers in the office discussed what they had seen while proctoring.
"That Hyuga Hamon from Class 4-1 is incredible. As expected of a Hyuga Clan ninja, basically no one in Class 1 can last more than a minute against him," Iketani Isamu said enviously.
"He'll probably take first place in the grade's Practical Exam again."
How Iketani Isamu wished he were the Homeroom Teacher of Class 4-1 instead of Class 4-2. Then he could collect bonuses whenever he wanted and have money to take his blind date to fancy restaurants.
But that was impossible. With results that good, there was naturally no way they would change teachers.
"Not necessarily. That Obito Uchiha in your class is pretty capable too. He might be able to compete," Kimura Sanjin interjected.
Iketani Isamu wore a puzzled expression and asked,
"Sanjin, did you get the name wrong? You mean Uchiha Tekka, right? His strength is indeed pretty good."
"How could I get the name wrong? His name is Obito Uchiha." Kimura Sanjin insisted that he was still young and did not have dementia. He was talking about Obito Uchiha.
"Obito Uchiha? Impossible. What kind of strength could he have?" Iketani Isamu looked at Kimura Sanjin skeptically, suspecting that he was messing with him.
Obito Uchiha was famously the Uchiha dead last. If he really had ability, how could he have such a nickname?
"Why would I lie to you? Obito Uchiha's opponent in the first match was that Uchiha Tekka you mentioned, and he won cleanly," Kimura Sanjin continued.
Seeing that Iketani Isamu still did not quite believe him, Kimura Sanjin directly brought Mu Yue into it.
"Mu Yue-sensei proctored with me. If you don't believe me, ask him."
Iketani Isamu looked toward Mu Yue.
Mu Yue nodded and said, "It was exactly as Teacher Kimura said. Obito Uchiha defeated Uchiha Tekka in the very first match."
"Huh, now that really is strange." Iketani Isamu scratched his head, finding it utterly unbelievable.
He believed Mu Yue's words. After all, Mu Yue-sensei had earned the recognition of every teacher just one month after joining the staff. He could not have been more reliable.
"Why could he beat Uchiha Tekka?" Iketani Isamu nearly scratched his scalp raw, yet he still could not figure out how things had turned out this way.
Wasn't he supposed to be the dead last? How had he defeated the former top student in the class?
It could not be that some mysterious teacher had descended from the heavens and secretly taught him advanced Ninjutsu, could it?
Watching Iketani Isamu's reaction, Mu Yue thought to himself, You're already this confused just because Obito has shown his strength. If Might Guy shows his strength too, you might start wondering whether you've been caught in a genjutsu.
Iketani Isamu had really lucked into a win this time. Mu Yue figured his bonus was probably secure.
After thinking about it, Mu Yue decided Iketani Isamu had not entirely coasted to victory. He had put in some effort too.
Iketani Isamu often asked him to substitute for his classes, helping him take on disciples and earn rewards. That counted for something. Besides, he had treated Mu Yue to plenty of meals, so he clearly knew how things worked.
"Teacher Hanyu's class is the truly impressive one." Ueda Aya, who had been silent until now, spoke up. She had been proctoring Mu Yue's Class 1-1.
"The overall level of their Three Basic Jutsu feels almost comparable to the Second Grade class I teach," Ueda Aya said with a sigh.
"Especially that super genius named Shisui Uchiha. He reminds me of Hatake Kakashi from a few years ago. He'll definitely take first place in this First Grade Practical Exam."
"He can be compared to Hatake Kakashi? Is he really that extraordinary?" Iketani Isamu asked, his face full of astonishment.
First place in the grade was one thing, but being comparable to Kakashi was terrifying.
Kakashi was, after all, the Ninja Academy's universally acknowledged super genius of recent years. His later performance had been outstanding as well; just one year after graduating, he had been promoted directly to chunin.
"He really is that extraordinary. He's simply on a completely different level from the other First Grade students," Ueda Aya nodded.
"That's amazing. Teacher Hanyu, your luck is so good. You'll get an excellence rating without even trying." Iketani Isamu looked envious. Why did he not have that kind of luck? He would be satisfied just to keep his bonus.
"What luck? Teacher Hanyu taught them well. With that overall level, you can't possibly say that all the talented students just happened to end up in Teacher Hanyu's class," Ueda Aya corrected.
She did not think Class 1-1 was that strong because it had many geniuses. Mu Yue's teaching ability was simply solid.
Otherwise, why would the students in the classes he substituted for hope that Mu Yue would come teach them more often?
It was not just one or two classes, either. Every class he had substituted for gave him glowing reviews.
"Slip of the tongue, slip of the tongue. Of course I know Teacher Hanyu is good. My students practically wish I were busy every day so Teacher Hanyu could teach them."
The more he spoke, the more depressed Iketani Isamu became.
He only had Mu Yue substitute occasionally, and he taught most of the time himself, yet the students preferred Mu Yue.
"It's nothing much. The students themselves are simply hardworking enough," Mu Yue said modestly.
After chatting with his colleagues for a while, Mu Yue soon began practicing calligraphy until the afternoon exams started.
They were still at Training Ground 16, though there were far fewer people than in the morning.
Because students who had already lost were not required to continue participating in the exam. They could decide for themselves whether to come or not.
As time passed, battle after battle took place. Nohara Rin, who was not particularly skilled in combat, was eliminated in the first round that afternoon.
Meanwhile, Might Guy, who cleanly defeated every opponent he encountered, finally drew everyone's attention.
"So Might Guy's taijutsu is this strong? He's way too fast! He took Daisuke down with one kick," a watching student said in surprise.
"He's changed so much. I remember that in Third Grade, he was only decent. He wasn't this strong," a student who knew Might Guy said in confusion.
"Maybe he trained even harder over summer break and after the new term started?" That was the only possibility he could come up with.
"The final battle: Number One, Obito Uchiha, versus Number Forty, Might Guy. Contestants, please prepare to begin," Mu Yue announced the lineup for the final battle of the class Practical Exam.
Upon hearing this, Might Guy and Obito exchanged a glance and quickly stepped into the examination area, ready to fight.
"Guy, I won't hand this first place over to you." Obito glanced at Rin standing outside the arena, and his fighting spirit instantly surged.
In front of Rin, he truly did not want to lose at all.
"Neither will I. If I want to become the strongest, then I have to seize every first place I can fight for!" Might Guy replied with high spirits.
"They really made it to the end." The students who had mocked the two before felt their faces sting.
It felt absurd to them. In Third Grade, they had been the two biggest dead lasts. Who could have imagined that they would become this powerful so suddenly in Fourth Grade?
Before the exam began, who would have dared think this? Hadn't everyone assumed Uchiha Tekka would take first place in the class Practical Exam?
They could not imagine how intensely these two had trained during the break and since the new term began.
After exchanging their pre-fight threats, Might Guy and Obito said nothing more. They stood facing each other and formed the Opposition Seal.
"Begin!"
The increase in bookmarks hasn't been great, so I'm thinking of changing the title to "Naruto: I Grow Stronger by Teaching." What do you think?
