There was also a murky stretch of the Yellow Springs River, sections of blood-yellow River of Forgetfulness, and further mingled stretches of silver-shimmering Weak Water.

This was absolutely a pit dug by those people from the Ancient Underworld, who had gone to great lengths to find this fragment of the Ancient Underworld.
It was even possible that when the Ancient Underworld shattered back then, someone had already made preparations in advance and controlled this fragment's descent into Tai Hao's world.
