Background
Qin Yang began as an exceptionally capable thief. He outmaneuvered Zhang Zhengyi, drew him to a Ten Thousand Eternity Commerce branch, and later showed him the concealed underground space beneath his courtyard. Zhang Zhengyi then sought to join Qin Yang’s sect. 15
His Corpse Touching ability became central to his growth. By touching the little brat’s bones, Qin Yang obtained the incomplete Purple Firmament Dao Scripture, the Shangqing Cloud Piercing Lightning Guiding Secret Method, and the innate Divine Power Thunderfire. The latter two were beyond his cultivation at the time, while the Dao Scripture became the foundation for his later advancement. 36
After recultivating the Purple Firmament Dao Scripture, Qin Yang’s comprehension of arrays improved sharply. He also settled the Banyan Tree Demon within the Thieves’ Sect and used Corpse Touching on Steward Qiu’s body to obtain appraisal knowledge, Magical Artifacts, and a top-grade flying sword. 66
While using Jia Yun’s identity on Sharp Metal Peak, Qin Yang learned the Xin Metal Absorption Art and combined it with his existing Geng Metal Absorption Art. He later fought Dang Han despite the latter’s higher realm, wounded him with heavenly lightning, killed him, and used two light spheres to avoid capture after Lian Yu intervened. 81 84
Appearance
Qin Yang does not maintain a single recognizable outward appearance. He frequently changes his face, physique, clothing, voice, aura, and apparent cultivation to fit a chosen identity. 124 396 538
- Can reshape facial features, bone structure, posture, skin tone, and apparent age. 124
- Uses clothing, hair arrangements, props, potions, masks, and altered speech to complete disguises. 124 378
- Has adopted identities ranging from restrained middle-aged merchants to ascetic Body Refiners, Daoists, sword cultivators, and local cultivators. 124 396 378 809
- Is conscious that prolonged role-playing could affect his sense of self. 538
Personality
Qin Yang is intensely practical. He dislikes wasted effort, seeks gains even from dangerous encounters, and treats intelligence, resources, favors, and leverage as things to be collected and used. 199 368 He is also highly patient when a long investigation is required; he assembled and analyzed nearly a million records to trace Zhou Wang’s bloodline across hundreds of generations. 635
He is cautious around powerful or unknown opponents, preferring disguise, terrain, indirect attacks, and contingency plans to straightforward confrontation. He can be ruthlessly decisive when he judges someone to be a threat, yet he is willing to spare enemies when their information or future usefulness outweighs immediate revenge. 162 456 696
Despite his self-serving calculations, Qin Yang consistently buries the dead with care and helps people he considers worthy of a second chance. He properly prepared the bodies of Hua Xiangrong and Yang Fan for burial, supported Zhang Zhengyi repeatedly despite their turbulent relationship, and personally revived and accepted Wen Xu as a disciple. 203 588 992
He places great value on the public persona he has built. Qin Yang’s private motives are often complicated, but he maintains that a person should be judged by deeds rather than intentions; this has left him widely regarded as a good person despite his many schemes. 846 1030
