Background

Hongjun was among the Five Elder Lords during the early Primordial Era. By the time of the conflict involving the Three Emperors and Chaos Demon Gods, he had already reached Grand Unity Eleventh Heaven and possessed the World-Opening Supreme Treasure, the Pangu Banner. Its World-Opening Air Blades allowed him to suppress Zhuzhao through the principles of destruction, establishment, sealing, and annihilation 19.

He sought to promote the Qi Cultivation Path and restrain the Divine Dao, believing the Immortal Path required a path beyond Taiyi Golden Immortal to truly spread. His connection to the Jade Plate of Creation allowed him to borrow Heavenly Dao Power, but every use incurred karma with the Heavenly Dao; during his first comprehension of its laws, he nearly lost himself 36.

After the Myriad Gods Conference, Hongjun preached throughout the Star Realm and later the Twelve Heavens. He spent fifteen hundred years teaching across three Great Thousand Worlds in the Star Realm, then ultimately spread the Taiyi Golden Immortal path throughout the Twelve Heavens before returning to Yujing Mountain in seclusion 51 83 84.

Following the Fierce Beast Tribulation, Hongjun sought to establish the Hunyuan path and free himself from his position as the Heavenly Dao’s representative. He later deduced the Grand Unity Golden Immortal realm from the Jade Plate of Creation, founded the Mystic Gate, and constructed nine Heavenly Dao Grand Altars to disseminate its path 82 174 176 180.

The Calamity of Dao and Demon forced Hongjun into direct opposition with Demon Ancestor Luohu. He united his Three Corpses, renamed the Immortal Path Grand Array the Myriad Immortals Diagram, and entered the decisive battle at Mount Sumeru with Yang Mei, Yin Yang, and Qiankun 199 200. After dispelling his karma, he proved the Dao as a Saint with overt support from the Heavenly Dao 211.

Five epochs later, Hongjun merged with the Heavenly Dao. His main body became the Heavenly Will while his Three Corpses continued to act in the world, including through the cultivation and deployment of Haotian 266 331. In the later era, he pursued a renewed position of authority over Heaven and Earth, eventually ascending as the ninth Saint and fusing with the Limitless Saint Position 650 655.

Personality

Hongjun is calculating, restrained, and deeply committed to order. He is willing to use indirect methods—including withholding information, leveraging karmic obligations, and spreading rumors—to advance the Heavenly Dao’s interests or secure a desired outcome 85 375.

His pursuit of order is inseparable from ambition. He repeatedly seeks to consolidate the Immortal Path, establish an independent Mystic Gate lineage, and later unify the Order of Heaven and Earth. This drive alienates allies such as Yin Yang and Qiankun and brings him into conflict with Nuwa and other Saints 175 650.

Despite these ambitions, Hongjun accepts personal sacrifice as the cost of his path. Before the final Dao-Demon battle, he resolves to surrender his freedom and “walk alone” in order to unite the Heavenly Dao 199.

  • He severed the Self-Corpse through a Fragment of the Jade Disc of Creation before the final Dao-Demon battle 200.
  • His Three Corpses enabled him to confront the four-person Immortal Slaying Sword Formation as “four entities as one” 199 200.
  • The Three Corpses later merged into his main body during his fusion with the Heavenly Dao and again during his Limitless Saint ascension 266 655.
