Background / History

Taiyuan resided near Mount Zhou, where she repeatedly fought Chaos Demon Gods and guarded the mountain’s weakening Divine Prohibition Grand Formation. Before meeting Li Fan, she was severely injured in a confrontation with the Five Elements Demon God, whose avatars sought Mount Zhou; Li Fan treated her with Three Lights Divine Water. She accepted his invitation to help establish the Postnatal Divine Path after learning that her Heavenly Book, the Investiture of the Gods, was essential to enfeoffing its gods. 12

Alongside Li Fan, Wangshu, and Ziguang, Taiyuan spent one hundred thousand years deducing the Postnatal Divine Path. Her contribution was a method of directly conferring godhood through the Investiture of the Gods, though it divides the authority originally held by Innate Deities and risks provoking conflict among gods. 13

During the later wars against the Chaos Demon Gods, Taiyuan became one of the foremost defenders of the Primordial World. She battled the Destiny Demon God despite mounting injuries and was nearly killed when Shen Ni ambushed her with the God Slaying Spear; Wangshu intercepted the fatal strike. 31 33

Taiyuan later established the Hall of Myriad Gods near Mount Zhou. Postnatal Deities submitted True Spirit imprints to the Investiture of the Gods, which both protected their True Spirits and enabled Taiyuan to monitor them for demonic corruption. 31

After attaining Ashen Saint, she repaired the cracks in Buzhou Mountain and received a gift of divine-prohibition light from the mountain. Her deeds renewed recognition of her former identity as the Central Yellow Emperor and cemented her reputation as the supreme God of War. 107

Appearance

Taiyuan is a red-haired goddess usually depicted in battle attire, with a direct and imposing martial presence.

  • Armor described as carrying the frosty or blood-red hues of the setting sun. 12 31
  • Long, loose hair compared to tattered battle flags in the wind. 12
  • Sharp brows and red eyes; her battlefield gaze is described as cold and unyielding. 31 76
  • Later wears a black Daoist robe while attending high-level assemblies. 382

Personality

Taiyuan is forthright, battle-loving, and decisive. Wangshu calls her the War Goddess, and Taiyuan openly invites her sister to leave the Taiyin Star and fight Chaos Demon Gods together. 13

She is also notably simple in her judgments of people: after Li Fan healed her wounds, she immediately called him a good person and acknowledged him. 12 Her confidence can become playful arrogance after breakthroughs, but she avoids pointless fights, declaring that she does not do things without benefit. 14 76

Despite her casual manner in the Grand Unity Palace, Taiyuan is deeply committed to protecting the Primordial World. She guards Mount Zhou, confronts Demon Gods directly, disciplines Shi Qilin for oppressing weaker clans, and treats the establishment of order as a responsibility. 31 107 120 211
