"What is this Oolong King you mentioned?" Bulma asked in confusion as villagers entered the house, while many more crowded outside, concerned about what was happening within.
At the mention of Oolong's name, the surrounding villagers' faces showed faint fear.
The middle-aged man's daughter was so frightened that she was nearly crying. She threw herself into his arms, covered her face, and trembled.
The middle-aged man hurriedly stroked his daughter's back with his rough, large hand, calming her trembling little body.
"Oolong is the yokai who lives here!" The middle-aged man turned to He-El, Bulma, and Goku with a grave expression. "He's a terrifying fellow, extremely powerful, ruthless, and vicious."
At the mention of Oolong, even the middle-aged man's body trembled slightly, fear coloring his voice.
"A yokai?" Bulma found that strange, then glanced at Goku's tail. "Like Goku?"
On Earth, intelligent beings were broadly divided into four types: human-type, animal-type, monster-type, and other-type.
Human-types were people like Bulma, whose appearance was entirely human.
Animal-types were, in fact, talking animals. For example, Turtle, whom He-El and the others had helped return to the sea earlier, could speak, so he counted as an animal-type.
Monster-types generally differed greatly from animal-types, often possessing forms unknown to humans. All such creatures were classified as monster-types.
Emperor Pilaf, for instance, was a monster-type.
Other-types were actually the various races from the universe. Kami and the Namekians, for example, were other-types.
The shared characteristic of all four types was that they could speak.
Being able to speak meant they were intelligent lifeforms, not animals.
If they could speak, they would not be treated as animals to be eaten. Of course, that did not rule out those who enjoyed eating things that could talk, but for most people, speech was the dividing line.
