King Piccolo's Egg was conscious and responsive. It clearly knew that He-El's presence outside was unfavorable to its survival, and immediately tried to fall into the ocean and escape.
He-El released his Ki and pulled Piccolo's Egg back, holding it in his palm. The egg shook twice, then pretended to be dead and stopped moving.

"Phew, I'm alive!" Yamcha swallowed a mouthful of energy jelly and exhaled as he began to recover his strength. Looking around, he asked, "Where's King Piccolo?"
"Right here!" Goku, who had recovered earlier, held Piccolo's Egg in both hands and raised it up.
"A huge egg?" Krillin, who had only just slowly recovered, stared blankly at the egg Goku was holding up, utterly confused.
"King Piccolo was taken care of by Senior He-El, but he spat out an egg at the very end," Puar explained from the side.
Although Goku and Puar had not seen He-El deal with King Piccolo up close, they had still watched from the island below as King Piccolo attacked He-El in the air again and again without moving him in the slightest. In the end, King Piccolo had been restrained and pulled before He-El, then spat out an egg.
