The Cosmic Cube

Nick Fury's hand gripping the cup handle trembled slightly, his expression tightening as information about the Cosmic Cube instantly surfaced in his mind.

In March 1942, the mysterious scientific organization Hydra, led by Red Skull Schmidt, found the extraterrestrial artifact known as the Cosmic Cube in a church in Tønsberg, Norway, intending to use it to develop powerful weapons. Later, he faced Captain America Steve in an airplane cockpit, accidentally damaging the energy machine. Red Skull vanished into a wormhole, while Captain America fell into the sea and was frozen in ice while trying to prevent the plane from exploding.

In 1945, Tony Stark's father, Howard Stark, failed to find Steve in the Arctic Ocean, but he salvaged the Cosmic Cube and handed it over to S.H.I.E.L.D. for safekeeping.

In 1980, the Kree Mar-Vell assumed the identity of the earthling Dr. Lawson and joined S.H.I.E.L.D.'s Project Pegasus, using the Cosmic Cube to research a lightspeed engine.

In 1989, after Mar-Vell learned that the Kree oppressed the Skrulls, she did not want the lightspeed engine to fall into Kree hands. The Kree sent Officer Yon-Rogg to hunt her down. Carol Danvers was the one flying her on a test mission that day. Their aircraft was shot down by Yon-Rogg's arriving fighter. Mar-Vell was seriously wounded and killed by Yon-Rogg, while Carol Danvers shot and destroyed the engine, accidentally merging her body with its energy, gaining superpowers and becoming Captain Marvel.

In 1995, she and Nick Fury discovered Mar-Vell's former laboratory in outer space and found the Cosmic Cube Mar-Vell had hidden away. During the battle, it was swallowed by a Flerken. After the battle ended, it was finally coughed up onto Nick Fury's desk and placed under S.H.I.E.L.D.'s custody.

And now, the Cosmic Cube was still at NASA's Space Radiation Reserve
