This kind of free idealism was quite practical for a Mind Mage.
Ted felt he could use it as a guiding principle to develop some psionic abilities.
Every day, Ted got up early to run and exercise, attended classes to grind tasks and experience, and when he had no classes, he was either experimenting with magic or looking up books and organizing notes in the library.
His entertainment consisted of chatting with his friends and taking part in group activities.
That day, Ted and Hermione were reading in the library. Harriett, Ron, and the others had finished their homework and slipped away long ago.
Although the task had already been completed, extensively "cataloging" books for his brain to reference had become a habit of his.
He read far too quickly. Hermione had not even finished one book, while a whole stack had already piled up beside him.
What was he reading? "Identification of Magical Timber and Bowtruckle Care," which covered magical wood, wand materials, and how to obtain wood without harming Bowtruckles.
"Do Not Forcefully Ride a Unicorn," which told the story of a foolish wizard obsessed with unicorns. Unable to get close to them, he eventually tried to ride one by force and had his leg crushed beneath its hoof.
"Accidental Potion Collection," a whole assortment of foolish wizards brewing the wrong potions and suffering all kinds of bizarre reactions after drinking them. From floating through the air to spraying seven-colored fountains from their mouths, there was no end to it...
"Polymorph Mishap Compilation," detailing the consequences suffered by twelve wizards whose Transfiguration went wrong. Eleven of them never fully recovered. "Useless Spell Collection," recording more than twenty completely pointless spells. For example, the Fart Sound Spell produced a strange noise like someone passing gas. It was utterly useless! "Postnatal Care for Werewolves"—apparently, if two werewolves conceived on the night of a full moon, their child would be a controllable werewolf capable of transforming at will. The question was, who had discovered that? Ted closed the book. There was just too much useless knowledge...
Just then, Hermione came over to Ted, leaned close to his ear, and whispered, "Come with me. I found something strange!"
"Oh?"
Ted followed Hermione past row after row of tall, dark-brown bookshelves that stood like walls, arriving before a secluded wall.
There was a slogan on the wall: Maintain proper etiquette in the library! —Helminster.
Hermione whispered, "I asked Madam Pince. This Helminster was the librarian over a hundred years ago."
"You think there's something wrong with this slogan?" Ted asked.
Hermione nodded. "There's no reason to leave a slogan in such an out-of-the-way place for a hundred years!"
"Good point! Let me try. Revelio!" Ted waved his wand.
The slogan on the wall immediately gave off a pale blue glow. But not every letter lit up.
"I get it!" Hermione solved the riddle after only a few seconds.
She used her wand to point at several letters, forming the word "silence." Then countless tiny words appeared on the wall beneath the slogan...
Ted had already received the system reward of 55 experience points. That meant they had solved the puzzle.
In just a few seconds, he had memorized all the contents.
"It looks like a spell. Let's leave first and study it slowly!"
In an abandoned classroom, Ted wrote down what he had memorized.
"It's a spell. It isn't difficult, but its effect is pretty good. I've never heard of anything like it before."
It was a spell invented by that former librarian. He could not stand students shouting and making noise in the library, so he created this Silence Spell.
Once cast, all sound within its range completely vanished. Whether someone tried to speak or make any other noise, it was impossible. Within the spell's range, sound disappeared!
When Harriett and the others learned that Ted and Hermione had solved a riddle just by reading in the library, they were extremely annoyed.
After all, there were not many forms of entertainment at school. Solving riddles was already one of the most interesting things to do.
Learning the spell was secondary. The process of solving the riddle was the fun part!...
By the end of November, Ted had finally managed to cast "Arcane Brilliance." Six White Mice had made heroic sacrifices for this achievement.
Being magically turned stupid did not affect their flavor, so Anzu still savored them carefully afterward.
Let us remember their great sacrifice!
Arcane Brilliance could grant its target a buff: "+2 Intelligence," lasting for thirty minutes.
This spell could be used on other people. And it practically had no cooldown at all!
Combined with Ravenclaw's Wisdom (Blue), it became +4 Intelligence and +1 Spirit. Even an idiot could become a genius!
Sure enough, after receiving the double buffs, Ted's Intelligence attribute reached 11 points—more than twice that of an ordinary person. His mind suddenly seemed to turn incredibly fast! It was like upgrading directly to a quad-core dual-channel system with expanded memory! His learning efficiency instantly rose to another level.
Previously, researching magic had felt awkward and laborious. He would turn things over and over in his mind, only making significant progress after one or two days. Now, after thinking for only a few minutes, he already felt he had gained considerable insight.
Ted even felt that he could figure out the casting pattern for Frost Nova in just a few hours! This smoothness and power could even bring about a Flow State, making Ted feel that researching magic was so wonderful, so unbelievably satisfying~
At this point, Ted could finally let out a sigh of relief.
He knew he was not really some top student. At most, his more mature mindset made him work harder, and he had his cheat to support him.
In truth, he could not compare to Hermione's learning efficiency, nor could he match Harriett's talent.
Once he slackened off and could not keep up with experience points, he definitely would not be able to maintain such rapid progress.
And Little Wizards grew the fastest from third to fifth year. In the original story, Harry learned the Patronus Charm, Shield Charm, Summoning Charm, and a series of other advanced spells during those years.
Ted knew he was a fake top student. He might even have to risk his life against Voldemort and the Death Eaters in the future. The pressure was real.
But now, he had relaxed. He had truly loosened up.
He realized that he had entered the realm of a genuine top student. Even without relying on the system, he could definitely become one of the best students.
Not to mention that he still had Otherworldly Knowledge!
He was confident now! He felt great~
Over the next few days, even his friends could sense Ted's newfound ease.
Harriett said, "Ted suddenly feels much more relaxed. Before, he always seemed so tense, like he was ready to jump up at any moment."
Ron said, "Exactly. He wanted to split every second apart and use it for studying. Just watching him was exhausting."
Hermione said, "His schedule hasn't changed, but mentally, he really has become much more relaxed."
Ted had not expected that he had been putting pressure on his friends without realizing it. "Sorry for making you worry. I couldn't figure things out before, but now I've relaxed."
Neville patted Ted on the shoulder without saying anything.
Jerry smiled. "It's nothing. When school first started, I was nervous as hell too. The moment I opened my eyes, I worried about making mistakes and getting expelled. But after spending time with all of you, I relaxed. You just took a little longer to do it..."
His friends thought that Ted had gone straight from a Muggle orphanage to Hogwarts and had not adjusted mentally.
With the buffs supporting him, Ted's research became easier and more efficient.
He also tried the chaotic psionic development method he had been researching before.
It worked quite well!
Based on the Silence Spell he had recently learned, Ted successfully developed related psionic abilities: Phantom Sound Technique, which controlled psionic power to produce illusory sounds within a certain range.
Message Technique, which allowed quiet long-distance conversation with a target that others could not hear.
False Voice Technique, which disguised the target's voice or other sounds.
These were psionic abilities. They did not require Magic Power or a wand, making them extremely discreet.
Nothing much happened in November, and the end of the month soon arrived.
The next day, December 1st, Ted received a system notification right on schedule:
"Ding~ Otherworldly Knowledge (Gold) has activated. Three-Ring Red Robe Wizard Penny's Spellbook (Blue) discovered."
Three-Ring Red Robe Wizard Penny's Spellbook (Blue) contained the magical research materials of Three-Ring Red Robe Wizard Penny. It required 550 experience points to redeem.
A Three-Ring Red Robe Wizard?! Could it be magic from the DND world? "Exchange it!"
After consuming 550 experience points, many complex spell models and pieces of information appeared in Ted's mind...
