"Whose letter?" Hermione leaned over and asked.
"Hagrid."
"Hagrid? What did he say?" Harriett asked as she ate a meat pie.
Ted spread Strawberry Jam over his bread. "He said it's about to hatch?"
The others froze. Ron pulled a chicken bone from his mouth and asked blankly, "Who's about to be born?"
Ted looked at him. "Norbert."
"Who's Norbert? Ah! It's..." He clapped a hand over his mouth—Hagrid had named the yet-unhatched dragon Norbert! Ted was worried he would spray chicken everywhere.
"We need to go!" Harriett stuffed the rest of her meat pie into her mouth, wiped her hands carelessly, and got to her feet.
"I'm not done eating! I'm not done yet!" Neville wailed as Ron and Jerry hauled him up by the arms and dragged him away.
The six person group's hasty departure did not attract anyone else's attention. But Malfoy at the Slytherin table could not help noticing.
He had been keeping an eye on them the whole time. Although every attempt to get even had only earned him another beating, he was nothing if not persistent. This time was no different. He grabbed his dim-witted lackeys, who had not even finished eating, and followed them.
More than a month had passed, and Ted had nearly forgotten about the Dragon Egg.
Dragon Eggs apparently took a long time to hatch. Today was May 5th, and it had been almost five weeks.
They hurried all the way there, terrified of missing it.
After all, an ordinary person might never see a dragon hatch in their entire life.
Forget dragons—most people had probably never even seen a chick break out of an egg.
This was truly a rare opportunity.
Knock, knock, knock.
The door opened, and Hagrid poked his head out. "You're here! Come in, hurry! It's
