Half a... "Great Old One"?
Was that the "Great Old One" I knew about?
Could he mean something else by it?
Several questions instantly sprang into Angel's mind. Just as she was about to ask, she seemed to realize something, glanced around, and said in a low voice:
"Audrey, are you listening?"
It was not that she distrusted this Manipulator. She simply harbored a persistent prejudice against the Spectator pathway. Moreover, the subject she and Azik were about to discuss was extremely dangerous. Without reaching Sequence 2, merely learning about it could draw the attention of unknown beings and bring corruption.
Mr. Azik chuckled, pointed toward the door, and said:
"This room is an independent dream fragment. She has deliberately kept her distance and isn't listening to our conversation outside the door. That sort of restraint is a rare and precious quality in the Spectator pathway."
Audrey has grown since that 'incident' when Hvin Rambis influenced her into investigating Klein and me out of curiosity... Angel felt both sheepish and gratified. After collecting herself, she asked again:
"Mr. Azik, what do you mean by a 'Great Old One'?"
"It is a concept I learned from my father. It refers to a level above the sequence, higher than that of a true god," Azik said in a low, solemn voice. "Only his children who had reached the angel level were permitted to learn of it, and we were forbidden to reveal it to anyone else, even saints... If that young lady hadn't told me you had already advanced to Sequence 2, I would never have brought it up."
*So it is the 'Great Old One' I was thinking of. But Mr. Azik seems to know only that it is a level higher than a Sequence 0 true god, not that it
