Angel was startled, and the title of this ancient god who had been active in the Second Epoch naturally surfaced in her mind.
Thanks to Klein's preparations before advancing to Scholar of Yore, Angel had picked up quite a bit of this world's history while staying by his side. She knew that Farbauti was one of the eight ancient gods, the being who represented the Devil pathway and ruled over the Abyss.
After the three ancient god factions—the broadly human faction, the nonhuman faction, and the faction that sought to overthrow the established order—had fought each other viciously, only to be defeated one after another by the suddenly emerging Ancient Sun God, the ruler of the Abyss had vanished. Most devils had likewise gone into hiding, disappearing without a trace.
An exploration of the Abyss recorded in Roselle's Diary mentioned that the place where devils should have lived and multiplied had undergone changes, becoming unsuitable for devils and demons. Everywhere he saw had either been littered with corpses or utterly silent.
This had led Angel and Klein to suspect that the Sequence 0 of the Demon pathway had likely either perished under the corruption of the Mother Tree of Desire, the original owner of the Tenebrous World, or become like the Chained God, struggling even to maintain his own existence and respond to his believers.
As a result, the few Devil Families still existing in the world, including the Beria Family to which the Desire Apostle Angel had once encountered belonged, now worshipped a being called the Cosmic Dark Side. To Angel, who knew the truth about the Great Old Ones and the cosmos, this was most likely an alias used by an Outer Deity, much like the Primordial Moon.
