Klein looked closely and found that Angel's appearance had not changed at all from the daytime. Only her expression had shifted, the peace and serenity that came from within replaced by something sharper.
And that emotion was directed straight at Cheek.
Cheek immediately sensed the change. Nervously, she took two steps back, distancing herself from Angel. Her sapphire-blue eyes filled with panic, as though she had seen the nightmare that had burned her to death in her dreams.
"I-I'll go home now. See you tomorrow, Angel, and Mr. Moriarty."
She mumbled incoherently, seemingly not for their benefit, but merely to give herself an excuse to leave.
Then she turned and ran toward the school, vanishing from Klein's sight almost instantly.
She's the real "Assassin" here... Klein grumbled inwardly. He turned toward Angel, who had already reined in that cutting aura and returned to the way she had looked when he met her two nights ago, and asked in puzzlement:
"Do you feel any different from a few minutes ago?"
"A few minutes ago?" Angel looked back at him in confusion instead. "No. I'm more curious about why she was so frightened... Did she really dream that I—the nighttime me—burned her to death?"
As she spoke, Angel lowered her head and examined her body, now hidden in the shadows of the tall buildings as the sun set, as though trying to see what had changed in the last few minutes.
