Angel froze, then immediately realized this must be part of the "investigation" Archbishop Anthony had mentioned. Dwayne Dantès was a believer who went to Saint Samuel Cathedral to hear sermons whenever he could. He had also just arrived in Backlund from Desi Bay, and his fabricated identity would hardly stand up to scrutiny. He was bound to be near the top of their list of suspects.

She hadn't expected the Nighthawks to enter his dream for questioning that very night... Angel gave a soft laugh and used the mirrors around Dantès House to scout the area. She found no carriage parked by the roadside, nor any figure leaning against a lamppost.

It seemed the Nighthawks in Backlund worked differently from the... captain in Tingen City. Perhaps Saint Samuel Cathedral had some special mechanism that let them enter dreams remotely from their base beneath the cathedral. Or perhaps they used someone else's dream as a stepping stone to reach their target... As a former Nighthawk and an experienced Beyonder, Angel thought of several possibilities at once.

She had no intention of interrupting the investigation. The first layer of Klein's fabricated identity might crumble easily under scrutiny, but his second persona—a man who had ventured to the Southern Continent, made his fortune, and retired—could serve him for a long time. Besides, he could resist Dream Invasion and should have no trouble facing a Nightmare's questions.

And if Angel used a Dream Charm to interfere, a Nightmare, or even a Soul Assurer, with their keen sensitivity to dreams, might notice. That would only draw suspicion to her and Klein. It wasn't worth it.

With that in mind, she sat down beside Klein's bed and waited for the questioning to end.
