It was nearly sunset when the steam train carrying Angel finally crossed the breadth of Loen and pulled into Constant City, the capital of Midseashire, on the southeastern shore of the Intervening Sea.
Her main purpose in coming here was to meet an envoy from the Tamara Family. Her secondary purpose was to escort a Red Gloves squad as they retrieved two important Sealed Artifacts kept behind Constant's Chanis Gate. With war already underway, this would prevent the artifacts from being lost if the city, which could become the front line at any moment, came under attack.
Of course, the squad had no idea they were being escorted by the Goddess Shadow, a Sequence 3 Unaging Demoness. To conceal their movements, they had even left off their distinctive red gloves. Dressed in the trench coats travelers commonly wore, they carried two heavy cases and hurried off the train as soon as it stopped, heading straight for the Church of Night in the city.
Angel did not conceal her figure. She merely used the "Falsehood" ring to disguise herself slightly, following far enough behind that these Red Gloves would not notice her while watching for other pursuers or prying eyes.
As expected, even after the squad entered the church and the local clergy guided them into the Underground Area, Angel had seen no one attempt to attack the Goddess Church's official Beyonders.
This did not surprise her. After all, the Three Great Churches had all been doing the same thing lately: gathering powerful Sealed Artifacts with troublesome negative effects from across the country in Backlund's cathedrals, or simply sending them back to their headquarters to be sealed together, lest anything go wrong during the turmoil.
The war had begun less than a week ago. Even with Feysac spies already operating in
