Anne answered without hesitation.
"I've heard of you, Amon the Blasphemer. Even if you're only an avatar, you could still lay some sort of trap in this matter to harm me and my contractor... the only way to guard against that is to refuse every request you make.
"We'll look for another way and try to save all the innocent people."
Goredolf wasn't particularly surprised by her reaction. He merely smiled, his plump face creasing, and clicked his tongue.
"It seems the other versions of me have left you with quite a few bad impressions out there... that's understandable. We all enjoy pranks and lack sufficient responsibility and empathy. It's easy for us to cause incidents that only we find amusing, while everyone else feels otherwise..."

Angel's tone was cold as well.
The only reason she had agreed to "cooperate" with him for now was that, after the laws failed, this "Consul" Amon hadn't immediately fled or attacked her. Instead, he had asked her to take him back to Hope City at once, saying that was the only way to save everyone.
Judging by the current situation, he hadn't been wrong. And, unusually, this avatar of Amon hadn't displayed the mocking attitude of his other avatars, nor had he lied or misled anyone with his words. But Amon was a master deceiver. All of this might well have been an act...
Perhaps the instant Anne agreed to become the "Consul," she would suffer angel-level parasitism or have her fate stolen.
And Amon would gain a barefoot female avatar with black hair and golden eyes who looked underage... imagining Anne smiling as she took a Crystal Monocle from her dress pocket and fitted it over her right eye sent a chill through Angel.
