At age three, Cai'er was identified as possessing innate inner spiritual power exceeding ninety and the Reincarnation Saint Daughter Physique. She was subjected to the Assassin Temple's Child of Reincarnation training and trials, which progressively took away her senses. During one ordeal, she lay unable to move for two and a half years. 22 23

Unlike the original course of her fate, Cai'er grew up with familial love and friendship through Gu Sheng, her brother. He regularly brought her food and toys, taught her recipes and stories, and concealed his own suffering from reincarnation trials as best he could. 1

Gu Sheng left her a soul-jade pendant and letter before departing for the Void Battlefield. Cai'er worried deeply over his absence and later resented that he had not personally said goodbye. 3 5

She encountered Long Haochen as a child, when he protected her despite being weaker than her. She recognized him years later through the energy signature of the Forget-Me-Not ring and his familiar hand, then began relying on the warmth and security he gave her. 23
