Background
Demon Hunt Squads are formed through the Demon Hunt Squad Selection Tournament. Candidates first obtain eligibility through preliminary assessments; sixty selected participants are then organized into ten squads. A standard squad contains six members, representing the six great professional temples: Knight, Assassin, Mage, Priest, Warrior, and Summoner 5 11.
The highest-ranking contestants may directly select teammates, while the remaining members are assigned through a roulette-style selection process. This system can separate close companions, making the opportunity to choose a teammate especially valuable 11.
Newly formed squads begin at Soldier Grade and undergo battlefield training. During the three-month Demon Expelling Pass trial, each squad is assigned to an infantry battalion without special privileges; advancement depends on battlefield merit and performance. If even one member dies, the squad is automatically disbanded and its Merit Tokens are confiscated 24.
The system has an exceptionally high casualty rate. Of the ten squads formed in a typical cohort, usually no more than three survive beyond twenty years 96.

Merit Tokens
Upon registration, each member receives a pale-golden Gem Token implanted into their left arm using blood as a catalyst. The token records demon kills, calculates Merit Points, and receives mission rewards from the Demon Hunt Squad Mission Tower 12.
- Merit Tokens are bound to bloodlines and contracts, allowing them to identify kills by summoned beasts and knight mounts as well as their human partners 28.
- Merit Points can be exchanged for equipment, pills, and Secret Skills 12 13.
- General-rank squads gain access to harder missions, higher rewards, the second floor of the Trading Center, and a larger share when cooperating with lower-ranked squads 72.

- Knights commonly serve as the central coordinators, defenders, and commanders of a squad 14.

Demon Hunt Eliminators
The Demon Race created the Demon Hunt Eliminators specifically to locate and eliminate Temple Alliance Demon Hunt Squads. The first force consisted of one hundred teams directly led by the Demon God Emperor 246.
- Each Eliminator team contains ten members and is led by at least an Eighth Rank demon 244.
- Elite teams led by members of the Heaven Defying Demon Dragon Clan, Moon Demon Clan, or Star Demon Clan are particularly dangerous; some are composed entirely of Ninth Rank demons 244.
- The Eliminators have already inflicted severe losses on Demon Hunt Squads, including member deaths and complete squad annihilations 246.
- Their standard ten-member formation becomes recognizable enough that Long Haochen later expands his own group to ten members while disguised as Moon Demons, allowing them to be mistaken for an Eliminator team 270.
