"Next, I'll talk about the two empires."
"At present, there are only two true nations on the continent: the Heaven Dou Empire in the northwest and the Star Luo Empire in the southeast. Any others that call themselves nations are subordinate duchies of those two."
"Aside from Spirit City, which is entirely managed by Spirit Hall itself, all other cities on Douluo Continent belong to the two great empires. For example, Nuoding City, where we are now, is under the rule of the Heaven Dou Empire. Holy Soul Village is the same."
"The Heaven Dou Empire's royal family is the Xue Clan, whose inherited Martial Soul is the Swan. The Star Luo Empire's royal family is the Dai Clan, whose inherited Martial Soul is the White Tiger."
"The two great empires differ quite noticeably in their governing policies. The Heaven Dou Empire likes to recruit all kinds of talent and develops more in the literary sphere. The Star Luo Empire was founded through martial strength; its people were fierce by nature, and brawls in the streets were an everyday occurrence."
"It was worth mentioning that half of the Gold Soul Coins Spirit Hall distributed to Soul Masters came from the two great empires. It was said that around a thousand years ago, a Title Douluo born a commoner had been poor when he was weak, and his family had died of illness because there was no money for treatment. To prevent others from suffering the same fate, he proposed to the Pope of that era that commoner Soul Masters should receive subsidies."
"However, the two great empires and all sects rejected the proposal at the time, because it would prevent them from using money to bring talented commoners under their control. In the past, commoner Soul Masters often had no choice but to sell themselves to nations, nobles, or sects as private soldiers when they lacked money, their families met with misfortune, or they needed cultivation resources."
"The Pope at the time believed it was indeed necessary to protect the development of commoner Soul Masters, so Spirit Hall mobilized in full force and forcibly pressured the two great empires into accepting the proposal. That was why things were as they were now: as long as one became a Soul Master, one could receive subsidies and develop smoothly until Level 40."
"Returning to the royal families, the Heaven Dou Xue Clan had relatively poor cultivation potential, but they usually possessed strong personal charisma and could easily win powerful people over to serve the nation."
"The Star Luo Dai Clan, on the other hand, had stronger cultivation potential. It was said that the current emperor possessed the cultivation of a Soul Douluo. Legend had it that every succession within the Star Luo Dai Clan was extremely bloody, and the strongest survivor would ascend the throne."
"Furthermore, the Dai Clan had close ties with the Zhu Clan within the empire. According to records, the Martial Souls of those two families could form a Martial Soul Fusion Skill. It was recorded that with this Martial Soul Fusion Skill, even an eighty-level Soul Douluo of the Dai Clan could contend against a Title Douluo-level powerhouse."
"What is a Martial Soul Fusion Skill?" Tang San asked.
Gu You explained, "It is a special type of Soul Skill. The conditions for it to appear are exceptionally demanding, but accordingly, its power is enormous."
"I'll tell you more when I find the time later. Next are the Upper Three Sects: the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect, Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Sect, and Clear Sky Sect that I mentioned to you before." As he spoke, Gu You pointed at Tang San's left hand.
He continued, "Unlike the two great empires, the Upper Three Sects have not remained unchanged. However, aside from the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect, the other two have undergone many changes over the past thousand years, eventually evolving into the three sects they are today over the last few centuries."
"Sects were bound together by Martial Souls. Except for the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect, a sect's strength was determined by the strongest wielder of its renowned Martial Soul. The Clear Sky Sect, first among the Upper Three Sects, had been hammered into that position by the Clear Sky Douluo many years ago. The Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Sect's strongest member was also a Title Douluo. As I told you before, the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect's sect master was only Level 79, but it enshrined two Title Douluo, so it too ranked among the Upper Three Sects."
"At present, the Clear Sky Sect had sealed itself away. However, because the previous generation's Clear Sky Douluo still retained his great reputation, and although this generation's Clear Sky Douluo was wanted, there had been no news of his death, it remained the first of the three sects."
"Because sect territories nominally still belonged to the two great empires, it was basically certain that the Clear Sky Sect supported the Star Luo Empire, while the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Sect and Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect supported the Heaven Dou Empire."
"Finally, there were the Lower Four Sects: the White Tiger Sect, Elephant Armor Sect, Wind Sword Sect, and Fire Leopard Sect. The strongest members of these four sects were all Soul Douluo, which was why they ranked among the Lower Four Sects."
"The Elephant Armor Sect's inherited Martial Soul was the Diamond Mammoth. As for the inherited Martial Souls of the other three sects, Xiao San, I believe you can guess them from their names. Also, the White Tiger Sect was a branch family of the Star Luo Empire's royal Dai Clan, serving as a backup plan."
After Tang San had digested the information about the human powers of Douluo Continent, Gu You continued, "Next, I'll talk about matters related to Soul Beasts."
"Apart from human settlements such as cities and villages, the rest of the land was basically the domain of Soul Beasts."
"However, because of Soul Master exploration and Spirit Hall's regular deployment of personnel to clear out Soul Beasts near human settlements, places like our village had never been attacked by Soul Beasts. Thus, the vast majority of Soul Beasts lived in places everyone called Forbidden Zones of Life."
"Among these Forbidden Zones of Life, the most famous was the Star Dou Great Forest. Located right between the two great empires, the Star Dou Great Forest covered an enormous area. Even the combined territory of the two great empires was smaller than the Star Dou Great Forest. Spirit City lay north of the forest. The Star Dou Great Forest contained countless varieties of Soul Beasts, and Soul Beasts of every attribute could be found within it. Their cultivation levels also varied greatly: the weak had only ten years of cultivation, while the strong had ten thousand years. It was said that the central region of the Star Dou Great Forest even contained Soul Beasts with one hundred thousand years of cultivation."
"Then there was the Extreme North, located at the northernmost edge of Douluo Continent. It was a land permanently sealed in ice, and legend said the cold winds there could freeze a person's soul. Its Soul Beasts were mainly Ice Attribute, though Water Attribute and Wind Attribute Soul Beasts were also relatively common."
"To the southeast of the Heaven Dou Empire lay a desert called the Death Desert. Countless adventurers regarded crossing it as the greatest achievement of exploration. Apart from dangerous Soul Beasts, its lack of water, scorching sun during the day, and freezing winds at night were all harsh trials for both body and mind. Its Soul Beasts were primarily Earth Attribute, though Metal Attribute, Wind Attribute, and Fire Attribute Soul Beasts could also be found."
"Southwest of the Star Dou Great Forest, at the border between Heaven Dou and Star Luo, was a grand canyon called Storm Rift. Lightning flashed and thunder roared there all day, while violent winds howled. Anyone who carried metal inside would be struck by lightning. A large number of flying Soul Beasts and insect Soul Beasts lived there, mainly of Thunder Attribute and Wind Attribute."
"Misty Wetland. East of the Star Luo Empire was a wetland forest shrouded in mist year-round. Beneath its murky, foul-smelling waters lurked all manner of poisonous creatures. With even the slightest carelessness, even a Title Douluo might be left there by the poison of a Hundred-Year Soul Beast. Its Soul Beasts were mainly Poison Attribute, though there were also many Plant Type Soul Beasts and Water Attribute Soul Beasts."
"Blazing Archipelago. At the southernmost edge of the continent was an archipelago where volcanic activity was extremely intense, earthquakes occurred frequently, and scorching lava flowed freely across the islands. Most Soul Beasts there were Fire Attribute, though Earth Attribute and Water Attribute Soul Beasts had also been discovered."
"Finally, there was the Endless Ocean surrounding the continent. No one knew how many powerful Soul Beasts lurked beneath its calm surface. Combined with storms and tsunamis, it was completely unsuitable as a Forbidden Zone of Life for humans."
P.S. This book expanded the area of Douluo Continent and added several new Soul Beast gathering areas. Otherwise, based on the original work, I estimated that Douluo Continent might only be about the combined size of the British Isles or Madagascar, while the Star Dou Great Forest might not even be as large as Zhangjiajie. Even Fire Attribute Soul Beasts lived in forests—weren't they afraid of forest fires?
In my imagination, the expanded continent was roughly the size of China's territory, except that the west was ocean rather than land.
