Background / History

Chrysanthemum Douluo and Ghost Douluo once pursued Dugu Bo and nearly killed him. Prince Xue Xing intervened with the Heaven Dou army, forcing the two Spirit Hall elders to retreat. This rescue established Dugu Bo’s connection with Xue Xing and led him to assist the prince in subsequent matters 163.

For decades, Dugu Bo suffered from Azure Serpent Poison that eroded his body despite his expertise in poison. While recuperating near the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well, he attempted to fight poison with poison, breeding venomous snakes and cultivating poisonous plants. These experiments left additional, mixed toxins in his body without resolving the underlying illness 8 13 59.

Before becoming Li Yu’s ally, Dugu Bo supported Emperor Xue Ye’s side—and, more specifically, Xue Beng—rather than the Crown Prince, “Xue Qinghe.” His eventual change of allegiance bewildered the emperor, who abandoned the idea of investigating him for fear of offending a Titled Douluo with unparalleled poison techniques 48 69.

After reaching Level 93, he deliberately pressures “Xue Qinghe” and complains about being left outside rather than invited in 9 11 69.

His pride does not prevent him from negotiating when the stakes matter. Desperation for a cure—and concern for Dugu Yan—makes him willing to accept Li Yu’s terms. Once treatment proves effective, he respects Li Yu’s secrets instead of demanding explanations for his extraordinary growth 12 15.

Family affection strongly influences his decisions. He watches over Dugu Yan’s relationships, worries about her safety, and comes to regard Li Yu as his own grandchild. Meeting Li Yu and Negotiating Treatment

Dugu Bo investigates the death of his personally cultivated Flame Spring Silver Serpent, only to witness Li Yu’s yellow Soul Rings turn purple. His anger gives way to astonishment, and he admits that he has never heard of absorbing one ring increasing the ages of others 8 9.

Li Yu then identifies his illness, prompting threats before the two negotiate treatment in exchange for access to Dugu Bo’s poisons. Li Yu first removes the mixed toxins from his experiments; this alleviates his condition but does not yet cure the underlying Azure Serpent Poison. Dugu Bo subsequently entrusts Dugu Yan’s treatment to him and opens his medicinal garden 10 11 12 14 18 19.

Cure and Change of Allegiance

After Li Yu becomes a Five Ring Soul King, the complete detoxification begins. It takes three months because Li Yu must distinguish harmful poison from the beneficial Poison Soul Power sustaining Dugu Bo’s cultivation. The cure raises Dugu Bo from Level 91 to Level 93 59 66.

In gratitude, Dugu Bo offers Li Yu the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well. Li Yu gives him the Snow-Colored Swan Kiss in return. Star Dou Great Forest Search

Dugu Bo accompanies Qian Renxue to find Li Yu and locates him through controlled snakes. The approaching Titan Giant Ape leaves him unable to reach Li Yu in time, so he withdraws with Qian Renxue, trusting Li Yu’s stated means of escape 75 78.

Qian Renxue interprets the withdrawal as betrayal and attacks him at their agreed meeting place. Li Yu’s eventual return confirms that he escaped, and Dugu Bo’s examination establishes that he needs recovery rather than invasive treatment. Transformation and Tournament Intervention

Qian Daoliu’s recruitment attempt precedes Qian Renxue’s revelation that she is the woman behind “Xue Qinghe.” Dugu Bo also learns that Li Yu is male.
