The black sedan sped down country roads, ambulances and fire trucks passing by from time to time.
The town that had been ravaged by meteors was filled with devastation and disaster. Today was destined to be catastrophic for the town. Sitting in the back seat, Jino could see many families fleeing the town in their cars through the window.
The sedan passed the field where Jino had been before. The towering cornfield had been flattened by the shockwaves from the meteor explosions.
Even though the town was in complete chaos, nothing could stop Lionel's drive to make money.
"Seriously, why aren't we staying at the hospital instead of following this bloodsucker around?" Lex complained beside Jino's ear, displaying his filial-son nature from an early age.
Just minutes ago, when Lionel mentioned the Kents, Jino had insisted on coming along.
"Come on, the expensive suit you're wearing was bought by him." Jino pointed at Lex's suit, making him sink back into gloom, his little face stretched long.
"Boss, we're here." The driver smoothly parked the sedan. Outside the window stood a somewhat old farm.
"What kind of person lives in a place like this?" Lex looked disdainfully at the nearly collapsing farmhouse.
"And that's why I tell you to work hard." Lionel sneered as he pushed open the door and stepped out.
Jino silently opened his door and got out as well.
"Oh, my God, I stepped in a pile of shit!"
The moment he got out, Lex unfortunately stepped in a pile of bird droppings at the edge of the road.
Jino walked past Lex and mocked him with a smile. "As lucky as ever, Lex."
He turned his attention to the farm.
The entrance gate was bound with chains. It seemed the owners were not home.
"We came here for nothing! What a waste of my time." The shrewd businessman Lionel was irritated. Catching the scent of bird droppings in the air, he turned and snapped at Lex, "Damn it, Lex, throw those shoes away! Stop smearing it everywhere!"
Lex awkwardly took off his shoe and tossed it into the field. Being scolded by his father in front of Jino made him lose even more face, and he ran back to the car with a dark expression.
"Father, it seems the family has arrived." Jino spoke pointedly as he stood on tiptoe and pointed at the two figures in the distance.
They were a young couple. The man's face was filled with simple, honest dullness—the sort of trustworthy person one could spot in a crowd at a glance. He gave off a steady, dependable impression.
His wife seemed to be saying something beside him. He smiled and nodded, but the worry in his eyes showed that he was not in a good mood.
His wife had lovely blonde hair. Her arms tightly hugged the coat against her chest, as though something was hidden inside. She kept glancing at the coat over and over.
"Thank God, they're finally here." Lionel let out a long breath and strode toward the couple.
Blocking their path, he pulled out a ledger from his pocket and said, "Hey, you two. I'm Lionel Luthor, chairman of LuthorCorp."
Lionel waved his checkbook at Jonathan. "Let's get straight to the point. How much do you want? I'll offer you a price you can't refuse for this farm."
"Wait, Martha and I—" Before Jonathan could finish, Lionel pulled him aside to discuss the price. In Lionel's eyes, there was nothing money could not buy.
Martha watched Lionel negotiate with her husband anxiously. To her, LuthorCorp was an enormous force they could not afford to provoke, and with her husband's stubborn personality, he might very well clash with Lionel.
Just as Martha was worrying, she felt someone gently tug at her pant leg. Lowering her head, she saw a delicately handsome little boy looking up at her with bright eyes.
"Beautiful big sister, what are you holding in your arms?" The crafty Jino fully took advantage of his adorable appearance and silver tongue as he questioned Martha.
Looking at the cute boy, Martha lowered her gaze to the boy she had picked up by the roadside and smiled. "He's the child I adopted."
"A baby?" Jino looked eager to try. "Can I see him?"
"This..." Martha wanted to refuse, but when she met Jino's pitiful expression, she sighed and crouched down, showing him the child wrapped in swaddling clothes.
"He's so cute." Jino stared at the baby wrapped in the coat. His short black hair and peaceful sleeping face, along with his fair infant skin, could easily stir a woman's maternal instincts. No wonder Martha had insisted on keeping young Clark.
"Can I touch his hair?"
Martha pursed her lips. "All right, but be gentle. He's sleeping."
"Of course." Jino nodded solemnly and pointed at the black sedan behind him. "I often put my little brother to sleep too. I'm experienced in this."
Martha glanced up at Lex in the sedan, who was sitting there with a dark face, unaware that he had just become someone's little brother. Only then did she relax and hand the swaddled baby to Jino.
Jino stared at Clark, then extended two fingers. Hidden from everyone else's view, a card glowing with golden light was pinched between them.
His fingers slowly reached toward Clark. The instant his index finger touched Clark's forehead, the golden card turned into golden dust and scattered over young Clark's body.
Contacted Clark Kent. Replication Ability copied.
The system's cold voice rang out in his mind.
Jino was somewhat confused. To be honest, he did not feel anything unusual. Everything was as calm and unchanged as breathing.
Except that the setting sun shining on him made his body feel inexplicably comfortable.
Could this system be fake? Jino's expression turned strange. He wanted to know whether the system had a complaint channel. He wanted to file a complaint against it!
As Jino pondered this, Jonathan and Lionel began arguing fiercely nearby.
"Sorry, Lionel. No matter how much you offer, I won't sell my farm. I like it here. It's an indispensable part of me!"
Lionel turned away furiously. "Fine, you stubborn idiot!"
"Jino, we're leaving!"
Jino glanced at his furious father, left Martha a regretful smile as she watched worriedly, then turned and followed Lionel away.
Sitting in the car, Lionel was clearly furious. All the way back, he relentlessly ranted about Jonathan's stubbornness and stupidity.
Jino was not in a good mood either. Feeling the small knife in his pocket, he could not tell whether he had truly gained Superman's abilities. If it had worked, why had nothing changed?
Jino subconsciously clenched his fist.
"Crack."
A crisp sound came from his pocket. Jino looked down and discovered that the sharp fruit knife in his palm had already twisted into a mangled scrap of metal.
