Background / History

Golden Dragon Abbot was a large, bald monk and a figure of the martial world. After being seriously wounded in a battle with bandits, he was rescued by Mangzi, who begged to become his disciple and accompany him into the martial world. The Abbot accepted Mangzi and taught him several powerful methods, but spent the following years compelling him to cultivate with no memories of anything else 35.

Mangzi’s apparent progress was part of a corpse-refining scheme. Golden Dragon Abbot had him undergo horizontal-training and strength-building cultivation, then arranged his death alongside a white-robed associate. Mangzi was killed by silver needles while soaking in medicinal liquid; the Abbot watched as his disciple died 35 41.

A month later, Golden Dragon Abbot brought Mangzi’s body to Jiang City’s Mortuary under the pretense that Mangzi had died attacking bandits. He and his disciples declined the Mortuary’s usual preparation and vigil services so that they could secretly carry out their plan 35.

Golden Dragon Abbot arrives at the Mortuary with Mangzi’s corpse, claims Mangzi died after recklessly confronting bandits, and performs grief for appearances. Bai Yu learns through burial records that Mangzi was murdered a month earlier as part of a corpse-refining ritual 35.

That night, the Abbot orders his disciples to activate the Sha Qi Grand Formation. The released Sha Qi destabilizes the Mortuary’s feng shui and causes corpses to transform 35 36.

Creation of the Bronze Armor Corpse

After Uncle Jiu expels much of the Sha Qi at grave cost, Golden Dragon Abbot ambushes him, removes the talisman restraining Mangzi’s corpse, and completes the refinement of a Bronze Armor Corpse. He prepares to sacrifice Uncle Jiu to nourish it 37 38.

Battle with Bai Yu and Death

Bai Yu destroys two formation points and reaches the Mortuary in time to interrupt the sacrifice. Golden Dragon Abbot battles him with Corpse Mound techniques, heavy prayer beads, and the Bronze Armor Corpse, but Bai Yu frees Uncle Jiu and wounds the Abbot with a poisoned crossbow bolt 38 39 40.

While the Abbot tries to recover from the poison, Bai Yu suppresses the Bronze Armor Corpse with dozens of Corpse Control Talismans.
