Lu Chengwen hadn't expected Jiang Shihan to have worries of her own.
He let out a long sigh. "I'll talk to her."
Leng Qingqiu felt that something was off. Lu Chengwen was sad—very sad.
But he was suppressing his grief, trying hard not to let anyone see it.
"Cheng Wen, what's wrong?"
"Nothing."
"No, something is bothering you."
Lu Chengwen looked at Leng Qingqiu for a long time, stroked her hair, and suddenly said sadly, "I lost a child."
Leng Qingqiu was utterly shocked. "What happened?!"
Lu Chengwen gave a miserable smile, one that made Leng Qingqiu's heart ache.
Seeing his reddened eyes, Leng Qingqiu knew this had dealt him a tremendous blow.
"Grudges in the martial world. We ran into bad people. They kicked her in the lower abdomen, and then..."
Lu Chengwen couldn't continue.
Leng Qingqiu took Lu Chengwen's hand. "Cheng Wen, there will be another one. Believe me."
"I know. It's just..."
Lu Chengwen struggled to regulate his emotions. "There was... hope just now, and I didn't even know what having a child would be like... I didn't know whether I could do it well... and then suddenly..."
Leng Qingqiu hugged Lu Chengwen. "You've had it too hard."
Lu Chengwen held Leng Qingqiu and realized he was trembling.
Whenever he thought of that child, all Lu Chengwen felt was sorrow and grief.
Shan Jianqing was already dead.
What else could he do?
Leng Qingqiu was sad too.
Lu Chengwen had truly been having terrible luck lately.
He had lost a child, his younger brother was being detained abroad, and the four regional lords within his company had rebelled, forcing him to return personally to suppress them... Anyone would be miserable and frustrated facing all that.
Yet Lu Chengwen remained spirited in public, even looking radiant and cheerful.
