Background / History

Tang San possesses memories and techniques from two lifetimes, including Tang Sect secret techniques. At Notting Academy, he attempts to ambush Du Cheng because of Du Cheng’s appearance and expects his inherited techniques to overwhelm an ordinary village boy. He later watches Du Cheng’s “Ugly Ghost Eighteen Throws” from hiding and is accused of trying to steal the technique. 2 9

His pursuit of strength shapes his early choices. Before seeking his first Soul Ring, he anticipates defeating Du Cheng and having Xiao Wu return to him; he also intends to punish Wang Sheng and others he considers fence-sitters. 7 After obtaining his first ring, he becomes a Soul Master and openly challenges Du Cheng, demanding an apology, 1,000 Gold Soul Coins, and the right to make Xiao Wu and Zhu Zhuqing follow him if he wins. 19

Tang San later learns that Tang Hao has secretly protected him since he left Holy Soul Village. Tang Hao is revealed as a Titled Douluo and becomes directly involved in Tang San’s cultivation, providing ores, Immortal Herbs, Soul Bones, and support in acquiring high-level Soul Rings. 195 198 351

During the Elite Soul Master Competition, Tang San builds Shrek Academy’s reputation through hidden weapons and deliberately harsh tactics. He defeats Feng Xiaotian by revealing his previously concealed second Martial Soul, the Clear Sky Hammer. 245 247 258 259 His later pursuit of power drives him into open conflict with Du Cheng, his teachers, and members of his own family. 289 329 334

Appearance

Following his severe injuries in the competition, Tang San’s body hair has not regrown even after his wounds heal. 262 His hair later turns from white toward black while his Soul Power disappears amid the struggle involving the Blue Silver Emperor. 329

  • Uses a hat to conceal his appearance at one point. 195
  • Acquires an External Soul Bone resembling a miniature spider leg from the Earth Cave Demon Spider. 199
  • Possesses Blue Silver Grass, which evolves into the Blue Silver Emperor. 329
  • Wields the Clear Sky Hammer as his second Martial Soul. 258

Personality

Tang San is intensely ambitious and measures himself against stronger rivals, particularly Du Cheng. He repeatedly seeks rapid advancement, risks attempting a 10,000-year fourth Soul Ring, and vows to reclaim what he believes belongs to him. 198 200

His confidence frequently develops into arrogance. After gaining power, he underestimates Du Cheng, disrespects women’s freedom of choice, and treats weaker Soul Masters with contempt. 19 245 248 In competition, he pursues fear as a weapon, using increasingly powerful hidden weapons to injure opponents so long as they survive. 247

Tang San is also strategic and adaptable in combat. He identifies weaknesses, counters poison, uses equipment creatively, and preserves his Clear Sky Hammer as a decisive trump card. 93 108 258 However, setbacks can make him reckless: he refuses assistance against stronger opponents, insults Master in desperation, and attempts a sneak attack on Du Cheng. 101 289
