Background / History

Xiao Wu arrives at Notting Academy as a work-study student and meets Du Cheng outside the academy. Calling their meeting fate, she immediately declares herself his “big sister” and promises to look after him. 1

At Seventh Dormitory, Tang San attempts to use a challenge over bedding to force Xiao Wu into obeying him. Du Cheng takes her place in the fight; Xiao Wu agrees to the arrangement and cheers him on, establishing her trust in Du Cheng. 2 After Du Cheng becomes dormitory head, she asks him to teach her the Eighteen Subduing Strikes. 3

Though she initially keeps her true nature hidden, Xiao Wu is a transformed Soul Beast and therefore does not need to hunt Soul Beasts to acquire rings in the ordinary manner. She becomes anxious when Du Cheng proposes taking her to Douluo Forest for her First Soul Ring, but chooses to go after learning of Tang San’s possible hostility toward him. 14 Her identity is later known by Tang Hao, Bibi Dong, and the Martial Soul Hall, making her a target for her Soul Ring and Soul Bone. 196 291

Xiao Wu returns to the Star Dou Great Forest and reunites with the Azure Sky Bull Python, Da Ming, and the Titan Giant Ape, Er Ming. She regards Du Cheng as being as important to her as the two Soul Beasts; both eventually accept his dedication to protecting her. She chooses to awaken her Soul Ring at the Lake of Life to improve its quality. 88

Following the Elite Soul Master Competition, Tang San publicly exposes her transformed Soul Beast identity. Du Cheng refuses Bibi Dong’s offer of status in exchange for surrendering Xiao Wu, while his allies stand with them against the Martial Soul Hall. 291 292 Tang Hao subsequently tries to seize her, prompting Du Cheng to intervene specifically because Xiao Wu was threatened. 293

When told Tang San may seek revenge against Du Cheng, she immediately insists that nobody may bully him and agrees to enter Douluo Forest with him. 14 During the competition, she reacts fiercely to an attack aimed at Du Cheng and expresses a desire to destroy the attacker’s corpse. 219

Her confidence can also become prideful or competitive.
