Background / History

Before becoming queen, Medusa was known as Zhu'er. She later inherited the title “Medusa,” a name passed down through the queens of the Snake-People Race. She describes her childhood name as one associated with rules, restraint, and confinement; most people who once used it are dead. 87

As queen, Medusa established a ruthless reputation that kept human powers away from the Snake-People Race's territory. Though she treats the race's elders and leaders as replaceable if stronger or more loyal candidates emerge, her severity is also portrayed as necessary to preserve her people's homeland in the desert. 92

Her younger sister, Die, was believed to have died after resisting Snake-People elders. Medusa secretly saved her with a Snake-People secret technique and half of her own Snake Essence, then concealed Die in a Secret Realm to protect her from further persecution. 92

Appearance

Medusa is an alluring Snake-Person woman whose beauty and imposing presence are repeatedly noted by humans and snake-people alike. In her true form, her lower body is a soft purplish-red snake tail.

  • Her true snake tail is normally covered by a hardened outer layer called Snake Guard, resembling clothing or armor. 84
  • She is associated with purple-red coloring, including her snake tail, snake arrows, and Purple Nether Heavenly Flame. 84 86
  • After evolving, she possesses the bloodline and body of a Seven-Colored Sky Swallowing Python. 110
  • During the invasion of Golden Snake City, she emerges from the ruins in a red dress while visibly pregnant. 102

Personality

Medusa is feared for her coldness, pride, and willingness to use force without hesitation. She considers emotional attachment a source of disaster, a belief shaped by the Snake-People Race's past, and originally disdains love entirely. 81

Her encounter with Su Qingyun disrupts this outlook. Captivated by him at first sight, she becomes possessive, impulsive, and openly affectionate in ways that conflict with her former aloofness. She wants a life with him beyond her role as queen, yet remains fiercely protective of both him and their child. 81 92 107

As a ruler, Medusa is decisive and authoritarian. She suppresses dissent among the Snake-People leadership with her power, protects Golden Snake City during its invasion, and punishes subordinates who harmed Su Qingyun. 90 102 111

  • She has a habit of confining people she values, including Die and Su Qingyun. 95
  • She is intensely jealous of women who show interest in Su Qingyun—even their daughter, Su Cai'er. 129
  • Despite jealousy toward Green Scales and other women around Su Qingyun, she can set it aside during a crisis. 158
