A huge black shadow, all flailing claws and limbs, loomed over the Orchid Mantis as she wiped her face with her forelegs. Still washing her face, the Orchid Mantis looked up. Oh, it was Mistblade.
The Moon Empress looked fairly calm, but her nine tails, which occasionally betrayed her thoughts around people she knew, were lashing wildly. She looked furious.
The Orchid Mantis waved her forelegs. "I've been acquitted, haven't I?"
Mistblade froze, then laughed, but soon lifted a foot and stomped down at her. The Orchid Mantis leaped diagonally aside and returned to her original form upon landing. Yu Xunge said, "What a sore loser!"
Mistblade narrowed her eyes at the corners of her mouth, then looked away in disappointment. She had already cleaned everything up. What a shame she hadn't gotten to see her drooling...
"You really will do anything to win." Mistblade couldn't resist the jab. Then she headed toward the stands. "When you synthesized that skill, you kept insisting you'd never use it."
Yu Xunge walked beside her and answered without a shred of shame, "What's wrong with this skill? It's really useful."
Even though she had only controlled Mistblade for less than two seconds before Mistblade broke free, success was success.
The two returned to the stands bickering, then fell silent together, because Maple Sugar was radiating cold all over and staring at Mistblade with anger and loathing.
Yu Xunge had no interest in getting involved in their business. She quietly walked over to Dawn Cicada and Queque, leaving Mistblade where she stood.
But perhaps Maple Sugar didn't know what to say either. After looking at each other for a few seconds, she and Mistblade both averted their eyes and gazed at the stands without speaking.
