History
Fighting in the Land of Rain and Land of Grass
Konoha was already at war when Uchiha Yoru assisted its logistics commander, Tsunade 1. Fighting intensified in the Land of Rain, while the involvement of great nations destabilized the neighboring Land of Grass. Rogue ninja, mercenaries, and samurai roamed the border, making even a supply run to Orochimaru’s front-line post dangerous 30 47.
Iwagakure contacted Kusagakure’s leader as the war widened. Tsunade, Jiraiya, and Orochimaru went to the Land of Grass to warn him of a suspected Iwagakure attempt to frame Konoha. The meeting became an ambush, and the three fought through the encirclement 46 48.
Konoha later sent an elite force of more than eight hundred shinobi, led by Tsunade, to the Land of Rain front. Yoru, Uchiha Mikoto, and Uzumaki Kushina encountered Sand puppeteers there. Tsunade, Jiraiya, and Orochimaru also fought Amegakure’s leader, Hanzō, and his elite shinobi 80 113.
End and aftermath
| Consequence | Details |
|---|---|
| Land of Rain | Prolonged warfare collapsed its economy, displaced civilians, and fostered banditry and rogue-ninja activity. Hanzō abandoned his ambition to make Amegakure a Sixth Great Ninja Village and wanted the war to end 91. |
| Smaller nations | Yoru’s account of the war describes damage to smaller nations and commoners as well as the major powers 137. |
| Sunagakure | The war ended hastily and did not cripple its shinobi forces; by the lead-up to the Third Great Ninja War, it had enjoyed more than twenty years of peace 167. |
| Konoha’s clans | Konoha’s major clans had gone to the front under an agreement with village leaders. By the next war, they resented promises that had not been fulfilled 171. |
