The Great Toad Sage silently watched them, and everyone's hearts immediately sank.

A ninja's speed was extremely fast. Before long, Jiraiya, who had been in the Land of Fields, left that country and entered the Land of Fire. As he neared Konoha, he encountered the Konoha villagers who had fled.

"Lord Jiraiya, you're finally back!"

"What happened? Why are you all here? Where's the Teacher?"

Jiraiya frowned at the ninjas before him.

The ninjas exchanged glances, and then Nara Shikaku stepped forward.

"Jiraiya, the Hokage... he's dead."
