Background

Kiyoshi arrived in Soul Society six years before the opening events and survived in the Thirty-Seventh District of West Rukongai. Near death when he arrived, he was taken in by Granny Hana, whom he resolves to support through a better life and eventual admission to the Shin'o Spiritual Arts Academy. 3

He possesses memories and knowledge from a past life, including familiarity with figures and events of Soul Society. He initially treats this knowledge as an advantage, but Yamamoto's experience teaches him the limits of an observer's perspective and tempers his former arrogance. 7 18
