Background / History

Aizen became disillusioned with Soul Society after witnessing its corruption, inactive nobility, and institutional decay. Believing the existing order to be a “coffin,” he resolved to overthrow it, occupy the Heavenly Throne, and become the god of a new world. He accepted that this project would require bloodshed and began conducting plans and experiments toward that end. 310

His exceptional talent left him isolated. He regarded Kisuke Urahara as a potential equal because Urahara saw through many of his schemes, but dismissed him after Urahara chose to work within Soul Society’s existing order. Hirako Mako also recognized Aizen’s plans, but lacked the power to stop him. 310

Aizen first took a serious interest in Asano Kiyoshi after observing the student’s anomalous Zanpakuto and unusual Reiatsu control. He ordered Tōsen to compile a dedicated file on Kiyoshi, judging his Reishi control the strongest in Soul Society and his Kidō mastery comparable to the Chief Kidō Master’s. 21 22

Over time, Aizen covertly manipulated nobles, Gotei 13 personnel, Hollow experiments, and Hueco Mundo affairs. He also deliberately allowed Kiyoshi to learn fragments of his actions, ultimately seeing Kiyoshi as a potential equal capable of remaking the world by a different path. 316 317 391 397

Aizen is a refined Shinigami with light brown, slightly wavy hair, light brown eyes, black-rimmed glasses, and a scholarly demeanor. He is frequently depicted wearing a white captain’s haori and maintaining a gentle smile. 19 21 80
