Background / History

Aizen created a Hōgyoku approximately 101 years before the Rukia incident and used it to conduct Hollowfication experiments on souls in Rukongai. Repeated failures showed him that his Hōgyoku could not break a Soul Reaper’s limits by itself. 664

While investigating Kisuke Urahara’s research, Aizen orchestrated soul disappearances to lure Captain-class Soul Reapers into the field. He observed the Hollowfication of Hirako Shinji and the other future Visored, confirmed Urahara’s research direction, then framed Urahara through Central 46. Urahara was exiled, while Aizen remained in Soul Society and became Fifth Division Captain. 664 658

Aizen takes interest in Lin Feng after learning of his extraordinary academy performance. He suspects Lin Feng is concealing his true strength and hopes the Akita Prefecture examination will force him to reveal it. 624
