Background

The Source of Mutation was the Shenhe Civilization's dangerously ambitious gene project. The civilization abandoned and sealed it after judging the project excessively dangerous, intending to resume it only under better conditions. A bankrupt God King later spent hundreds of billions of Divine Power to decipher the seal-breaking ritual under the guise of operating a Mutated Beast farm. 59

When the seal was weakened, the entity awakened and forced the ritual participants—including Han Wu—into a contest. Each contestant received 10,000 units of high-purity Radiation Ore and had to cultivate a mutated beast capable of defeating the Level 6 Mutated Beast Gomora; the winner would become its vessel. A participant who attempted to forfeit was immediately fed to Gomora. 59

Han Wu ultimately became its host. The Source of Mutation parasitized him, renamed his status to “Source of Mutation · Han Wu,” replaced Growth Acceleration with Directed Mutation, and spoke to him directly within his mind. 61 It repeatedly consumed Han Wu's Divinity without permission, attempted to seize his body, and gradually became a threat Han Wu could no longer tolerate. 192

Using the Diamond-tier title Split Personality, Han Wu separated it from himself after six months of struggle. The Source of Mutation became an independent clone with its own status panel, though it remained bound to Han Wu while the latter lived. 192 193 Han Wu later imprisoned it in Heavenly Palace City, but released it during an invasion of his Divine Realm in exchange for its assistance. 425

Appearance

The Source of Mutation has no fixed anatomy. Upon its release, it appeared as a green, liquid-bodied being that was neither human nor beast, with an exaggerated humanoid smile and a body capable of changing shape at will. 59

Personality

The Source of Mutation is playful, mocking, and fond of calling Han Wu “Carrier.” It initially treated people as test material or potential vessels, taunted the black-robed ritualists, and turned their desperation into a lethal game. 59 61

It fiercely values freedom. After being separated from Han Wu, it resisted remaining in his Divine Realm and resented the fact that its new status made it subject to Han Wu's commands. 193 Its scientific curiosity is equally intense: it eagerly pursues unfamiliar organisms, gene technologies, and experiments with little regard for conventional ethics. 538 794 1324

Despite its early parasitism and attempted usurpation, its relationship with Han Wu gradually became cooperative. It defended the Divine Realm when released, fought alongside Han Wu, saved him from the Spear of Victory, and later trusted him with the details of its breakthrough. 425 549 951 1413
