Background / History

Tang San studied under Yu Xiaogang at Nuoding Junior Spirit Master Academy, where he became the academy's strongest student despite possessing the commonly dismissed Blue Silver Grass Martial Soul. He embraced Yu Xiaogang's maxim that “there are no useless martial souls, only useless soul masters,” and defended his teacher fiercely against criticism. 69 70 178

Liu Xinghan first confronted Tang San at Nuoding. Tang San, then a level 22 Soul Grandmaster, challenged him in defense of Yu Xiaogang's honor but was overwhelmingly defeated without forcing Liu Xinghan to use his Martial Soul. His Blue Silver Entanglement and Parasitic Seed were broken, his Ghost Shadow Perplexing Track was read through Mental Power, and he was left injured with two front teeth knocked out. 70 71

Tang San later entered Shrek Academy with Xiao Wu and Yu Xiaogang. There, Liu Xinghan repeatedly humiliated him: secretly tripping him during his confrontation with Dai Mubai, defeating him through Zhu Zhuqing and Ning Rongrong's Soul Tool-supported team, and later beating him severely after Tang San misread a private conversation between Liu Xinghan and Xiao Wu. 174 195 216

Yu Xiaogang eventually disclosed that Tang San was Tang Hao's son and that he possessed Twin Martial Souls: Blue Silver Grass and the Clear Sky Hammer. The revelation intensified Tang San's resolve to grow stronger, particularly after he learned of Tang Hao's death and blamed Spirit Hall. 185 221 222 248

After Xiao Wu was taken away by Dugu Bo and Zhao Wuji attempted to kill him, Tang San fled Heaven Dou Royal Spirit Master Academy with Yu Xiaogang and Flender. He later reached the Soul King realm at seventeen and lived near the secluded Clear Sky Sect, where he sought the strength needed to surpass Liu Xinghan. 248 251 346

Tang San and Yu Xiaogang survived the initial destruction of the Clear Sky Sect due to their remote location, escaping with the aid of Tang San's Blue Silver Grass and Eight Spider Lances. They were ultimately captured after the sect's annihilation and executed by Liu Xinghan. 349 351

Appearance

Tang San is initially described as an ordinary-looking youth, resembling Yu Xiaogang in his plain appearance. By age seventeen, he had grown much taller, though his appearance remained ordinary because he could not awaken the Blue Silver Emperor bloodline. 69 70 346

  • Uses a Blue Silver Grass Martial Soul. 70
  • Possesses violet eyes while using the Purple Demon Eye. 71
  • Has Eight Spider Lances as an External Soul Bone, giving him a spider-like silhouette from afar. 349

Personality

Tang San is deeply loyal to Yu Xiaogang, regarding him as a father figure and reacting angrily whenever others insult him. He also initially places great importance on protecting Xiao Wu, calling her his sister and opposing Dugu Bo when Xiao Wu is exposed as a Hundred-Thousand-Year Shapeshifted Spirit Beast. 70 248

His courage is frequently undermined by rashness and pride. He challenges stronger opponents, including Liu Xinghan and Dai Mubai, but suffers humiliating defeats when he underestimates either their strength or outside interference. 71 174

Repeated defeats and the reported death of Tang Hao turn Tang San's determination toward revenge. He seeks to cultivate his Clear Sky Hammer, vows to kill those responsible for harming his father, and remains driven to surpass Liu Xinghan even after becoming a Soul King. 221 222 251 346

Abilities & Skills

Blue Silver Grass Martial Soul

Tang San's primary Martial Soul is Blue Silver Grass, which he cultivated to an unusually high level despite its reputation as a Waste Martial Soul. 178 242

  • Blue Silver Entanglement — summons Blue Silver Grass to bind opponents; its leaves carry poison that can weaken those caught in it. 71
  • Parasitic Seed — scatters Blue Silver Grass seeds toward a target. 71
  • His Blue Silver Grass is vulnerable to fire-attributed attacks; Zhu Zhuqing's flame sword cut through it and vaporized its poison. 195
  • Tang San has three spirit rings by the time he reaches level 32: two Hundred-Year and one Thousand-Year. 242

Clear Sky Hammer

Tang San's second Martial Soul is the inherited Clear Sky Hammer of the Clear Sky Sect, confirming him as a Twin Martial Soul possessor. 185

  • Yu Xiaogang advises him not to cultivate it prematurely, believing its spirit rings should be added only after his first Martial Soul reaches a high realm. 196
  • Tang San uses the Clear Sky Hammer against Zhao Wuji while fleeing with Yu Xiaogang. 250

Mysterious Heaven Skill and Tang Sect Techniques

Tang San uses several martial-arts techniques alongside his Spirit Master abilities. 71

  • Mysterious Jade Hand — hardens his hands with a jade-like glow for close combat. 174
  • Hidden Weapons — carries and uses concealed weapons, including poisoned daggers and volleys of projectiles. 71 195 250

Eight Spider Lances

Tang San possesses the Eight Spider Lances, an External Soul Bone. 349

  • Allows him to cling to cliff faces and escape after the Clear Sky Sect explosion. 349
  • Visibly spreads across his back, making his outline resemble a giant spider from a distance. 349

Relationships

  • Yu Xiaogang — mentor and father figure; Tang San defends him fiercely and remains his disciple despite an offer from Vice Dean Zhi Lin. 70 242
  • Xiao Wu — longtime companion whom Tang San calls his sister; their bond deteriorates after he relinquishes her to Dugu Bo, and Xiao Wu later breaks with him. 248 258

  • Zhao Wuji — former Shrek Academy teacher turned enemy after Tang Hao's death; Zhao attempts to kill Tang San over the loss of his eye. 250 251
  • Flender — Shrek Academy dean who joins Tang San and Yu Xiaogang when they flee Heaven Dou Royal Spirit Master Academy. 251
