Background / History

Spirit Hall was founded roughly ten thousand years before the present story by an ancestor of the Qian Family. Its founder led Soul Masters in a war that nearly exterminated the Evil Spirit Masters of Douluo Continent; since then, Spirit Hall has continued hunting their surviving remnants whenever they are discovered. 40

The organization’s first Pope later became the Angel God. Spirit Hall preserves statues of its successive Popes, Great Enshriners, and Elders within its Ancestral Court. 125

Before its transformation into an empire, Spirit Hall already maintained a continent-wide network of branch halls, main halls, and elite institutions. Its leadership sought to retain commoner Soul Masters and prevent exceptional children from being recruited by the great sects or the two empires. 5 42

Organization

Central Authority

Spirit Hall’s two highest governing bodies are the Papal Palace, ruled by the Pope, and the Worship Hall, whose Great Enshriner is its foremost authority. Their relationship is politically strained, with their respective followers warned to remain cautious around one another. 26

Branch Halls and Main Halls

Spirit Hall operates local branches across the continent, allowing its personnel to mobilize Soul Masters and relay information rapidly. The Heaven’s Cut City Main Hall could assemble three Soul Saints, five Soul Emperors, over twenty Soul Kings, and two hundred lower-ranked Soul Masters. 42

The halls in Heaven Dou City and Star Luo City are formally called Spirit Halls, rather than ordinary main halls. Their status is publicly second only to the Papal Palace. 51

• Soul Master Legions — Spirit Hall fields four major Soul Master Legions. The Heaven Annihilation Legion was commanded by Gu Qing before he became a Titled Douluo. 31

Conflict with Evil Spirit Masters

Spirit Hall considers Evil Spirit Masters its historic mortal enemy. Its members treat the destruction of Evil Spirit Master strongholds as an immediate priority due to the group’s massacres and cruel cultivation methods. 40 42

During the operation at Ox Horn Village, Spirit Hall mobilized the Heaven’s Cut City Main Hall against a stronghold of roughly one hundred Evil Spirit Masters. The force won, but suffered more than seventy deaths, including a Soul Saint and two Soul Emperors. 42 49

Subsequent intelligence revealed that the Holy Spirit Cult had more than a thousand Evil Spirit Masters distributed across ten strongholds. Liu Xinghan noted that Spirit Hall had already destroyed three of those strongholds before the later destruction of another. 104

Much later, Liu Xinghan and Qian Daoliu discovered Evil Spirit Masters collecting battlefield souls near Tianluo Pass. Their investigation led toward the Crimson Yellow Desert and eventually the Holy Spirit Cult’s Teleportation Array to the Sun Moon Continent. 376 380

Consolidation of Power

Spirit Hall accepted powerful independent figures and factions to expand its strength. Dugu Bo joined after negotiating for the survival of a branch of the Heaven Dou Imperial Family, while his granddaughter Dugu Yan remained at Spirit Hall. 63 78

Liu Xinghan also secured the allegiance of the Hundred-Thousand-Year Wind Dragon. Bibi Dong and Qian Daoliu accepted the creature as Spirit Hall’s Guardian Beast due to its combat strength and strategic value. 121 123

Holy Son Succession

Bibi Dong nominated Liu Xinghan as Holy Son, a position regarded as the Pope’s successor and one whose status stood below only the Pope and Great Enshriner. 123

Liu Xinghan formally received the Holy Son Token after swearing not to betray Spirit Hall before the Angel God statue. 126

Alliance Building

Under Liu Xinghan’s leadership, Spirit Hall gained the allegiance of several major factions.

Establishment of the Spirit Hall Empire

Spirit Hall announced its intention to establish an empire and unify Douluo Continent. Invitations to its founding ceremony forced influential factions to decide between alignment and open opposition. 353

At the founding ceremony in Spirit City, Qian Renxue became the first Empress of the Spirit Hall Empire and Liu Xinghan succeeded to the position of Pope. The ceremony was secured by Spirit Hall’s four Soul Master Legions and multiple Elders. 355

Following the empire’s founding, Spirit Hall began administering the absorbed Heaven Dou territory through its continent-wide branch-hall network. 356

War with the Star Luo Empire

After attacks on Spirit Hall branch halls in Star Luo territory, the Elder Council approved a war against the Star Luo Empire. The invasion force included regular soldiers, Spirit Masters, and Titled Douluo. 356

Liu Xinghan’s display of eight Titled Douluo-level summoned beasts, including four Hundred-Thousand-Year Soul Beasts, forced Star Luo’s forces to retreat. 368

By the time of the Book of Origin arc, the fall of the Star Luo Empire had completed the Spirit Hall Empire’s unification of Douluo Continent, ending its long-standing era of division. 399
