First Appearance Chapter 3

Background / History

Spirit Hall was founded roughly ten thousand years before the present story by an ancestor of the Qian Family. Its founder led Soul Masters in a war that nearly exterminated the Evil Spirit Masters of Douluo Continent; since then, Spirit Hall has continued hunting their surviving remnants whenever they are discovered. 40

The organization’s first Pope later became the Angel God. Spirit Hall preserves statues of its successive Popes, Great Enshriners, and Elders within its Ancestral Court. 125

Before its transformation into an empire, Spirit Hall already maintained a continent-wide network of branch halls, main halls, and elite institutions. Its leadership sought to retain commoner Soul Masters and prevent exceptional children from being recruited by the great sects or the two empires. 5 42

Organization

Central Authority

Spirit Hall’s two highest governing bodies are the Papal Palace, ruled by the Pope, and the Worship Hall, whose Great Enshriner is its foremost authority. Their relationship is politically strained, with their respective followers warned to remain cautious around one another. 26

  • Papal Palace — The Pope’s governing seat and the location from which major organizational decisions are issued. Bibi Dong ruled from the Papal Palace before Liu Xinghan succeeded her as Pope. 26 355
  • Worship Hall — Overseen by the Great Enshriner; associated with the Angel God and the Qian Family’s historical leadership of Spirit Hall. 123 124
  • Elder Council — A council attended by Elders and major Spirit Hall figures. More than twenty Titled Douluo attended the council meeting that approved plans concerning the Heaven Dou Empire. 303
  • Ancestral Court — A restricted memorial hall containing representations of successive Elders, Great Enshriners, Popes, and Spirit Hall’s founder. 125

Rank Tokens and Authority

Token Authority
Pope’s Token Represents the Pope and holds the highest authority within Spirit Hall. 42
Angel Token Represents the Great Enshriner of the Worship Hall; ranked alongside the Pope’s Token. 42
Elder Token Commands immediate obedience from local Spirit Hall personnel and is treated as the authority of an Elder. 42
Holy Son Token Granted to Liu Xinghan after his succession ceremony; its authority can surpass an Elder Token, and even Platinum Bishops must obey its holder. 126
Fifth-Rank Token A personal token held by high-ranking figures at the Soul Douluo level or above. 96

Branch Halls and Main Halls

Spirit Hall operates local branches across the continent, allowing its personnel to mobilize Soul Masters and relay information rapidly. The Heaven’s Cut City Main Hall could assemble three Soul Saints, five Soul Emperors, over twenty Soul Kings, and two hundred lower-ranked Soul Masters. 42

The halls in Heaven Dou City and Star Luo City are formally called Spirit Halls, rather than ordinary main halls. Their status is publicly second only to the Papal Palace. 51

Military Strength and Resources

  • Soul Master Legions — Spirit Hall fields four major Soul Master Legions. The Heaven Annihilation Legion was commanded by Gu Qing before he became a Titled Douluo. 31
  • Papal Palace Guard — Papal Palace guards are Soul Masters; even the weakest among them are Soul Elders. 299
  • Soul Hunting Forest — A Spirit Hall-controlled forest one hundred kilometers south of Spirit City, used to raise low-level Spirit Beasts. Entry requires authorization, and unauthorized hunters face severe punishment. 3
  • Spirit Master recruitment — Spirit Hall’s leadership treats the loyalty of commoner Soul Masters as a strategic foundation of its power. 5
  • Attack-type Soul Tools — By Liu Xinghan’s era, Spirit Hall had recovered and begun developing attack-type Soul Tool technology, intending to equip its legions and offset the numerical advantage of imperial regular armies. 56 89

Soul Tool Hall

The Soul Tool Hall was established to research, produce, and teach the manufacture of Soul Tools for Spirit Hall’s forces.

Development Chapter Details
Establishment 28 Construction neared completion; Bibi Dong appointed Liu Xinghan as Acting Hall Master and Lou Gao as Vice Hall Master. 28
Early research 33 The hall was still focused on individual research; attack-type Soul Tools had not yet entered mass production. 33
Expansion 88 The Pope expanded the hall to train Rank 2 and Rank 3 Researchers for the Spirit Master Legions; nearly one hundred Intern Researchers joined. 88
Production limits 131 Most stored products were Rank 1 Soul Tools, with few Rank 2 tools and no Rank 3 tools kept in the warehouse due to the shortage of qualified instructors and high-level researchers. 131
Strength Clan recruitment 132 The Strength Clan joined Spirit Hall to support Soul Tool production; patriarch Titan became a Vice Hall Master alongside Lou Gao. 132

Personnel

  • Liu Xinghan — Acting Hall Master during its founding period; the source of the techniques studied by its researchers. 28 88
  • Lou Gao — Vice Hall Master and the hall’s only documented independent Rank 3 Researcher during its early expansion. 28 88
  • Titan — Strength Clan patriarch and later Vice Hall Master, recruited for his clan’s forging expertise. 132

Conflict with Evil Spirit Masters

Spirit Hall considers Evil Spirit Masters its historic mortal enemy. Its members treat the destruction of Evil Spirit Master strongholds as an immediate priority due to the group’s massacres and cruel cultivation methods. 40 42

During the operation at Ox Horn Village, Spirit Hall mobilized the Heaven’s Cut City Main Hall against a stronghold of roughly one hundred Evil Spirit Masters. The force won, but suffered more than seventy deaths, including a Soul Saint and two Soul Emperors. 42 49

Subsequent intelligence revealed that the Holy Spirit Cult had more than a thousand Evil Spirit Masters distributed across ten strongholds. Liu Xinghan noted that Spirit Hall had already destroyed three of those strongholds before the later destruction of another. 104

Much later, Liu Xinghan and Qian Daoliu discovered Evil Spirit Masters collecting battlefield souls near Tianluo Pass. Their investigation led toward the Crimson Yellow Desert and eventually the Holy Spirit Cult’s Teleportation Array to the Sun Moon Continent. 376 380

Story Role / Major Arcs

Consolidation of Power

Spirit Hall accepted powerful independent figures and factions to expand its strength. Dugu Bo joined after negotiating for the survival of a branch of the Heaven Dou Imperial Family, while his granddaughter Dugu Yan remained at Spirit Hall. 63 78

Liu Xinghan also secured the allegiance of the Hundred-Thousand-Year Wind Dragon. Bibi Dong and Qian Daoliu accepted the creature as Spirit Hall’s Guardian Beast due to its combat strength and strategic value. 121 123

Holy Son Succession

Bibi Dong nominated Liu Xinghan as Holy Son, a position regarded as the Pope’s successor and one whose status stood below only the Pope and Great Enshriner. 123

Liu Xinghan formally received the Holy Son Token after swearing not to betray Spirit Hall before the Angel God statue. 126

Alliance Building

Under Liu Xinghan’s leadership, Spirit Hall gained the allegiance of several major factions.

  • Strength Clan — Joined the Soul Tool Hall and supplied forging expertise. 132
  • Skywater Academy — Identified as one of the academies that had pledged allegiance to Spirit Hall. 280
  • Xiangjia Academy — Came under Spirit Hall’s influence through the Elephant Armored Sect. 280
  • Azure Phoenix Family and Chihuo Academy — The Azure Phoenix Family submitted, bringing its affiliated academy into Spirit Hall’s camp. 279
  • Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect — Submitted before the Elder Council meeting; its allegiance substantially strengthened Spirit Hall’s political position. 299 303
  • Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan — Its surviving forces surrendered after Yu Yuanzhen’s death. 353

Establishment of the Spirit Hall Empire

Spirit Hall announced its intention to establish an empire and unify Douluo Continent. Invitations to its founding ceremony forced influential factions to decide between alignment and open opposition. 353

At the founding ceremony in Spirit City, Qian Renxue became the first Empress of the Spirit Hall Empire and Liu Xinghan succeeded to the position of Pope. The ceremony was secured by Spirit Hall’s four Soul Master Legions and multiple Elders. 355

Following the empire’s founding, Spirit Hall began administering the absorbed Heaven Dou territory through its continent-wide branch-hall network. 356

War with the Star Luo Empire

After attacks on Spirit Hall branch halls in Star Luo territory, the Elder Council approved a war against the Star Luo Empire. The invasion force included regular soldiers, Spirit Masters, and Titled Douluo. 356

Liu Xinghan’s display of eight Titled Douluo-level summoned beasts, including four Hundred-Thousand-Year Soul Beasts, forced Star Luo’s forces to retreat. 368

By the time of the Book of Origin arc, the fall of the Star Luo Empire had completed the Spirit Hall Empire’s unification of Douluo Continent, ending its long-standing era of division. 399
