Ang did not have to wait long before the Demons launched a fierce assault on the defensive line. After this period of fighting, the Demons had already figured out the Archer Regiment's range and generally avoided getting too close to the archers' effective range. Instead, they jeered and shouted from beyond that range, trying to provoke the humans.
To deal with this, the commanders adjusted their tactics and arranged for the Infantry Regiment to engage the Demons at close range. The Infantry Regiment was assigned to the front lines to clash with the Demons. If they came under heavy pressure, they could retreat behind the defensive line at any time and let the archers suppress and strike any Demons that had not been driven back.
Ang and his teammates received their orders and quickly entered combat readiness. They formed up at the forefront of the defensive line, prepared to meet the Demons' attack. Ang felt the difference his new equipment made. His double-bladed axe moved freely in battle, while the sturdiness of his shield gave him tremendous protection.
When the Demons charged again, Ang and his comrades met them without hesitation. Though the Demons' taunts and provocations were irritating, Ang's mindset had changed completely. He focused on the battle, using the double-bladed axe's twofold attacks and his shield's defense to drive back the Demons' assaults again and again. As the fight deepened, Ang gradually found his rhythm against them.
On the first day of the rotation, Ang's company was quickly deployed to face the Demons. Faced with those taunting and provocative Demons, Ang's unusual equipment drew their special attention. Seeing that Ang was dressed differently from the other warriors, the Demons let out vicious roars and stared at him with intense hostility.
Sensing the Demons' malice, Ang refused to show weakness. He roared and slammed the flat of his axe against his shield, producing a deafening crash in answer to their provocation. This courage stirred even greater fury and recklessness in the Demons. At once, some of them could not wait any longer and charged at Ang.
Ang reacted swiftly. He drove his right leg down hard, using the ground's counterforce to brace himself in a more stable stance as he prepared to meet the enemy. He swung his double-bladed axe toward the charging Demons, while the other warriors also sprang into action and engaged them in a fierce clash.
On the battlefield, Ang and the Demons clashed continuously. Axe blades struck Demon flesh, while his shield blocked their attacks. The fighting around him was just as intense. The Infantry Regiment's soldiers resisted with all their strength, while the Demons charged in with savage ferocity. Ang's performance drew the attention of his comrades, and they threw themselves into battle as well, forming a powerful defensive line in an attempt to repel the Demons' assault.
Amid the clamor of battle, Ang gave it his all, every strike filled with strength and determination.
A Demon's sharp claws smashed heavily into Ang's shield. Ang had already channeled Qi force into the shield, blocking the blow and thrusting the shield upward in the same motion. Qi force circulated rapidly through his body, and he felt as if he had endless strength. Ang activated the enchantment on his battle axe and slashed upward through the Demon's body. Qi force clung to the axe blade, easily cutting through the Demon's skin, and the Demon let out a pained howl.
As the Demon recoiled in pain, Ang quickly thrust his battle axe forward and drove it into its body. The Demon raised an arm and smashed it down at Ang. Ang blocked the attack with his shield while hacking madly at the Demon's body. Every blow carried powerful Qi force and determination. Soon, Ang seized an opening and swung with all his might, severing one of the Demon's arms.
The one-armed Demon howled in agony. The other warriors quickly seized the chance and used greatswords to cut off its head. Ang and the comrades around him worked together seamlessly and performed brilliantly in the battle. Ang's courage and calm inspired them, and together they killed several Demons, successfully repelling the enemy's attack.
As the battle continued, Ang gradually adapted to the characteristics of his new equipment, and every one of his attacks became more precise and forceful. Fighting shoulder to shoulder with his comrades, he used tenacious fighting spirit and coordinated teamwork to withstand the Demons' fierce assault. The battlefield was filled with the sounds of slaughter.
Before long, the Demons were driven back, and calm gradually returned to the battlefield. However, the battle had not come without a price. Some warriors had unfortunately died in their clashes with the Demons. Ignoring the danger of a Demon counterattack, the warriors recovered their comrades' bodies and brought them back to camp, where they cremated them according to tradition as a sign of respect.
Ang's performance in battle surprised many people. His courage and composure made him stand out in combat. However, some believed that his performance was due to his sharp weapon. Ang's battle axe could easily cut through Demon skin, making many people deeply envious. By comparison, they had to use all their strength just to wound a Demon. If they did not channel enough Qi force, the enchantment array on their longswords might even fail to activate, leaving them unable to deal effective damage to the Demons.
In truth, many people did not know that Ang's control over Qi force was already exceptional, even surpassing that of many veteran Level 1 Warriors. He could channel Qi force precisely into his weapon, maximizing its power. This was not merely an advantage of his weapon, but a reflection of his own strength.
After returning to camp, Ang silently sorted through his equipment while reflecting on every detail of the battle.
Over the following days, the Demons challenged them almost daily, provoking the human defensive line. Ang's unit was also sent to the front lines to answer the challenge several times. After these battles, Ang gained a clearer understanding of his own combat ability. He discovered that in one-on-one fights, nearly none of the Demons he had encountered over the past few days were his match. However, he also clearly realized that the Demons were far stronger than he was. After all, he was still only a Senior Squire.
During this time, Ang also noticed some abnormalities. He found that his Qi force seemed to contain something unknown, making his performance in battle especially outstanding. Not only that, his physical recovery and the speed at which his body healed after injury were far greater than those of other warriors. After every battle, while the others were still resting and treating their wounds, Ang had already almost fully recovered.
Ang began seriously considering the reason for these changes. He guessed that they might be related to his experience of crossing over, or perhaps his body had been undergoing changes he did not know about while he meditated and cultivated Qi force. Whatever the reason, Ang understood that these abilities were vital to his survival and victory on the battlefield.
As the fighting continued, Ang gradually adapted to life in the Infantry Regiment. Not only did he forge deep friendships with his comrades, but he also continued to improve his combat skills and tactical awareness. Every clash with a Demon was an opportunity to temper himself, making him tougher and stronger.
In recent days, Ang had been training hard. He constantly increased the intensity of his training, hoping to use the pressure to improve his strength. He desperately wanted to become a Level 1 Warrior, because the gap between himself and the Demons still made him uneasy. Every heavy blow from a Demon left Ang feeling extremely uncomfortable. Although he recovered quickly, the impact of being struck by such tremendous force still placed a heavy burden on his body.
More troublingly, Ang discovered that every time he suffered a heavy blow, the circulation of Qi force in his body was affected and slowed. To solve this problem, Ang began asking the Infantry Regiment's warriors for advice. He questioned nearly everyone, asking how they had become Level 1 Warriors.
The warriors each shared their experiences and insights. Some advised him to focus on basic training, especially improving his strength and endurance. Some emphasized the control and use of Qi force, advising him to meditate more and train his Qi force. Others shared combat techniques and experience, teaching him how to make better use of his shield and battle axe for defense and attack.
Ang humbly accepted every suggestion and incorporated them into his training. He rose early every morning for long periods of physical training, including running, weight training, and strength exercises. He also spent a great deal of time meditating on and practicing control over Qi force, doing his best to make its circulation smoother and more powerful.
Besides physical and Qi force training, Ang repeatedly practiced combat techniques. At the training ground, he simulated fighting Demons, trying different defensive and offensive strategies in an effort to improve his reaction speed and combat ability. He also sparred with his comrades in actual combat, accumulating experience through practice, identifying his weaknesses, and improving them.
Ang's effort and diligent training gradually earned his comrades' recognition. Though he was not yet a Level 1 Warrior, his performance in training and battle had already made everyone see him in a new light. Ang believed that as long as he persevered, he would certainly become a Level 1 Warrior and truly become an indispensable member of the Infantry Regiment.
