Physiology
Demons are Abyssal creatures whose strength is rooted in dark elemental power. Their bodies are fundamentally unlike those of humans: magic crystals form in their heads, their skeletons contain more than 350 bones, and much of their defense comes from thick skin and exoskeletal structures. 24 96
- Black Magic Crystal — Found in the head; a valuable material used in dark magic arrays. 767
- Black Magic Mark Skin — Tough, magic-resistant skin used to reinforce armor and create high-grade Enchanted Armaments. 37 53
- Dark-element affinity — Their dark power is naturally countered by Holy Light and other light-element attacks. 96
- Keen smell — Demon forces rely heavily on scent to locate enemies; human troops successfully disrupted them with odor-neutralizing liquid. 14
Classification
| Type | Rank | Known traits |
|---|---|---|
| Two-armed Foul Spirit | Level 1 | Stronger than a human Level 1 Warrior in a direct fight; possesses immense strength, endurance, and refined combat skill. 16 |
| Four-armed Foul Spirit | Tier 2 | Large, heavily built creature with bone spurs; standard Tier 2 personnel are not considered a match for one. 780 |
| Tier 3 Foul Spirit | Tier 3 | Can rapidly regenerate wounds with distorted dark power and deploy a Dark Domain that suppresses Holy Light. 825 941 |
| Horned Foul Spirit | Tier 3–4 | Horns can form Dark Greatswords from Demonic Power; a Tier 4 specimen used its horns to rapidly restore severe injuries. 941 976 |
| Half-Demon bloodline Foul Spirit | Tier 3 | Possesses a demonic bloodline, a patterned horn, and authority over other Foul Spirits in Tute City. 861 862 |
Abilities & Traits
Physical Superiority
Even Level 1 Demons surpass human warriors of the same level in raw strength, stamina, and combat ability. Their skin, bones, and exoskeletons make them difficult to injure through ordinary means. 16 24
- Can overwhelm equal-ranked human Warriors in one-on-one combat. 16
- Thick Black Magic Mark Skin provides exceptional defense and magic resistance. 37
- Higher-tier Foul Spirits can wield heavy weapons and breach fortified positions. 810 840
Dark Power
Demons draw on dark and Abyssal power, enabling techniques that oppose Holy Light and empower their attacks. 96 941
- Tier 3 Foul Spirits can create a Dark Domain that suppresses Holy Light over a battlefield. 941
- Horned specimens can condense Demonic Power into destructive Dark Greatswords. 941
- Foul Spirit leaders can command large armies and enforce their rule through overwhelming strength. 840 861
Regeneration
High-tier Foul Spirits can recover from injuries at extreme speed in favorable dark-element environments. 825 941
- Tier 3 wounds may heal visibly during battle. 825 941
- A Tier 4 horned Foul Spirit restored itself to near-full condition within seconds by activating its horns. 976
- Regeneration consumes energy; repeated restoration can weaken the creature. 903
Sensory Tracking
Demons possess an acute sense of smell used to detect enemy movement, though it can be neutralized by specialized chemical weapons. 14
Weaknesses
- Holy Light — Light-element Qi force and Holy Light magic naturally destroy or bypass their dark defenses. 96
- Elemental suppression — Fire-element power is particularly effective at suppressing dark energy. 767
- Plane rejection — Newly arrived Foul Spirits suffer rejection in non-Abyssal planes; their skin becomes damaged until they acclimate. 766
- Loss of sensory advantage — Disrupting their sense of smell can create confusion throughout an entire force. 14
Materials
- Black Magic Crystal — Recovered from a Demon’s head; used in dark magic arrays and traded as a valuable resource. 767
- Black Magic Mark Skin — High-resistance hide used for armor reinforcement and superior Enchanted Armaments. 37 53
- Magic hide and flesh — Demon corpses can provide durable hide and preserved meat-like material. 766 767
Story Role / Major Arcs
Early Human–Demon War
Demons first appear as a threat faced by Ang’s unit in the forest. A previous squad kill required Ang to absorb the creature’s attack and wound its neck with an axe before the rest of the squad could finish it; later encounters prove far deadlier, with several companies forced into combat. 7
Human forces subsequently exploit the Demons’ dependence on smell by spreading a liquid that removes nearby scents, disrupting their ability to locate enemies in the dark. 14
Abyssal Foul Spirit Incursions
Foul Spirits are identified as an Abyssal Race whose dark-element power is naturally opposed by Ange’s Holy Light-infused Qi force. This affinity allows him to break their defenses more easily than ordinary warriors can. 96
Their appearance on the Archipelago Plane is later traced to a concealed Foul Spirit Gate. Their intact skin indicates that some had survived in the plane for at least a month and had time to adapt to its rejection. 765 766
Gate of Foul Spirits
Ange discovers a living Foul Spirit Gate, whose creature-like body is fused into the gate itself. The entity differs from ordinary Four-armed Foul Spirits and is unfamiliar even to veterans of the God-Demon Battlefield. 778
A Tier 2 Four-armed Foul Spirit emerges from the gate and is immediately killed by Ange, who recovers its Black Magic Mark Skin. 780
God-Demon Battlefield
Foul Spirits serve as one of humanity’s principal Abyssal enemies on the God-Demon Battlefield. Tier 2 Foul Spirits are used as a benchmark for Merit Points, while Tier 3 and Tier 4 individuals command armies, control domains, and threaten entire fortresses. 794 941
Dax and Damodi lead Foul Spirit legions against Blue Bridge Fortress, but both are killed by Ange during the defense. The human side records nearly 1,600 Foul Spirit kills in the battle. 840 841
Abyssal Leadership Conflicts
The Half-Demon bloodline Foul Spirit seizes Tute City and declares itself its ruler, but is critically wounded by Ange. Tutesuk later devours the injured ruler, acquiring its demonic bloodline power and launching a retaliatory offensive against the human defense line. 861 862
