Otto took out a slip of paper and stepped directly into Wight's attack range.

Wight raised an eyebrow. This man actually dared to step into his attack range. He really was a loyal, righteous soul unafraid of death, utterly convinced that Wight would not kill him.

Hmph. Although he had been deceived by Cocolia, he still had capable people around him.

For some reason, Wight developed a bit of goodwill toward the blond man before him and that Tesla woman.

"This has my contact information. Once you return to Cocolia's side, just pretend nothing happened."

Otto handed the slip of paper to Wight. Wight glanced at it, then clenched it in his hand. Dark light flickered between his fingers, and the paper was completely destroyed.

"Hmph. I do not wish to wait too long."

"If you help this Alliance Leader bring Cocolia under control, this Alliance Leader will reward you handsomely!"

Wight snorted and turned, sweeping his sleeve as he left. He no longer cared about Raiden Mei's disappearance.

That was Cocolia's problem to worry about. What the hell did it have to do with him?

Watching Wight leave, Otto smiled. That dumbass was really easy to fool.

"Otto... were you lying to him?"

Kiana asked from beside him. She had watched the whole thing, and with her sensitive intuition, she felt that Otto had been putting on an act.

"You could tell?"

Otto smiled and rubbed Kiana's head.

"But you don't need to worry about this. Let's go eat first."

Things like underhanded schemes should be left to filthy adults like him.

Otto walked ahead with Kiana, but after walking for a while, she tilted her head and looked at his profile.

"Otto, would you lie to me like that too?"

Hearing Kiana's question, Otto turned around. His emerald eyes met her azure ones.

"Why would I lie to you? You've only got a few pounds of meat on you. How much could you fetch if I sold you? There's no profit in tricking you."

Otto said with a smile.

Kiana unhappily gave his shoulder a light punch.

Kiana did not speak again.

She merely looked up at the sky, which had already darkened.

She might not have much meat on her.

But she could give birth to a few pounds of it.

Chapter 45: So Happy Here, I Forget Siegfried

After eating and drinking their fill, Otto and Kiana returned to the hotel. Otto had no intention of changing locations; this was his and Kiana's little nest in Changkong City.

Kiana took out the room keycard from her pocket, while Otto stood behind her and looked toward his own room.

Raiden Mei was still hidden inside.

But he did not open the door.

He had no intention of pressuring Mei too hard. Girls still needed their personal space.

"What's wrong?"

After Kiana swiped the keycard and the door opened, she looked at Otto behind her in confusion. He seemed like he intended to follow her inside.

"I'll have to ask you to take in this homeless child again tonight~"

Otto said with a smile. Kiana rolled her eyes at him and pushed the door open.

"Anyway, you rented this room."

She did not stop Otto from coming in. After all, she had let him in once already, so a second time did not matter.

Entering as if he knew the place well, Otto took off his outer coat and leisurely sat down on the sofa.

He was a little tired. After all, it was his first time shopping with a girl. Still, Mei was a very sensible girl, so she had saved him quite a bit of trouble.

One day, he should send her a cookbook and some kitchen utensils.

Though Otto had already forgotten that he had said during the day that he wanted to eat Mei's homemade bento.

"Are you showering first, or am I?"

Kiana took off her own outerwear as well. It had originally belonged to Otto, and she carefully folded it.

"Let's bathe together. You can scrub my back."

Otto said with a grin.

"Keep dreaming."

Kiana replied irritably.

"Pretty girls don't fart." Otto rolled over and sat up, twisting his neck. Though his body could not feel fatigue, the motion helped ease his mental exhaustion.

Just like how he did not actually need sleep, yet still slept anyway.

Though his body was made of Soul Steel, his mind was still his own.

"Then I'll wash first. Are you really not coming to scrub my back?"

Otto smiled at Kiana, who answered him with an eye roll.

He headed for the bathroom. Originally, he had wanted to take advantage of her vulnerable state. Kiana had killed someone, after all; if he handled it well, he might have been able to coax her into the bathroom.

But Otto no longer had such thoughts.

Perhaps Wight had ruined his mood, or perhaps he simply did not want to anymore.

Just as he was about to pull open the bathroom door, Kiana spoke while looking at his back.

"Otto... have I caused you trouble?"

She asked it with the same state of mind, in the same tone as before.

Otto chuckled. Why was Kiana acting like a little dog afraid her owner would abandon her?

Still, Otto understood. By staying at his side, Kiana had gradually come to understand what it meant to have a place where she belonged. She was slowly becoming unwilling to leave, and precisely because of that, she feared Otto would throw her out over the fact that she had killed someone.

She did not want to return to a life of being alone.

Otto did not even turn around. He opened the bathroom door and walked in, his voice drifting out from inside.

"I prefer the way you usually grin like an idiot."

Then the door closed.

Kiana stared at the bathroom door, leaned back against the wall, and tilted her head up at the ceiling, a trace of confusion appearing on her face.

"I like it too..."

Wait, when did this young lady ever grin like an idiot?

After saying that, Otto took off his clothes, went to fill the bathtub with hot water, and placed a small stool on the floor.

Usually, one washed clean before soaking in the bath.

Sitting on the stool, Otto was about to wash his hair. Though his body was made of Soul Steel, life still needed a sense of ritual, so he still washed his hair.

He turned on the faucet, and steam gradually filled the entire bathroom. Then, at that moment, the door was suddenly pushed open.

Kiana walked in.

Otto turned his head toward Kiana in puzzlement, his eyes narrowing slightly. Her appearance here was somewhat beyond his expectations.

Her outfit was even more unexpected.

Kiana was no longer dressed as White Comet. She was barefoot, with only a bath towel wrapped around her body.

Her shoulders were smooth and rounded, her collarbones delicate. The bathroom was thick with mist, which tinted Kiana's pretty face a faint red.

She looked at Otto with a flushed face. He faced her directly, watching her with a puzzled expression.

What was this girl trying to do?

When Otto looked at her, Kiana swallowed. The words she had wanted to say slipped her mind for a moment.

Otto frowned slightly and said irritably, "Even if you don't do this, I won't throw you out."

Otto took Kiana's behavior as her being afraid he would send her away. But his words brought Kiana back to her senses. She shyly looked away, her cheeks rosy, then gathered her courage again. She looked at Otto, her right hand gripping her left arm.

She muttered, "That's not what I was thinking."

"I just thought... you've been so good to me, and I wanted to give you something in return. So I thought I could scrub your back..."

Otto had taught her and Asakura Miyuki to get along properly, helping her understand that friendship was not simply about taking without giving. But Otto was her first friend.

Kiana did not know what she could give Otto.

That guy was far too rich. He lacked nothing at all.

It was not like she could actually give him several pounds of meat.

So, after what Otto had said earlier, she thought that scrubbing his back could count as a return gift.

Hmph, this young lady would reluctantly scrub your back today!

Otto looked at Kiana, somewhat surprised by her idea.

But his heart remained unmoved. His Soul Steel body allowed him to remain rational at all times.

He simply handed his back over to Kiana without hesitation.

"Put some strength into it. Don't act like you haven't eaten. You ate several people's worth of food tonight."

That one sentence made Kiana lose it. Baring her teeth, she sat behind Otto and aggressively began scrubbing his back with the towel.

Just watch me peel a layer of skin off you today!

Meanwhile, in the next room, a Young Girl stood in front of the kitchen counter.

Raiden Mei looked at her new phone. Otto had bought it for her, since everything she had been carrying before had been reduced to ashes by the electricity. When Otto had gone shopping during the day, he had bought her replacements.

A video teaching people how to cook was playing on the phone.

Mei was learning to cook.

Because she still remembered what Otto had said during the day. He wanted to eat a lunchbox she had made herself, so she wanted to learn.

Still, this felt a little too easy.

After roughly skimming through the video, Mei felt like she had the hang of it.

After tying on an apron, Mei touched her head. She clearly was not wearing a hat, yet it somehow felt as though her head had become a little heavier.

It was probably just an illusion.

Not paying it much mind, Mei gripped the kitchen knife and, while watching the video, aimed it at the white radish.

"Crack."

The white radish was cut cleanly in two with a single stroke.

Morning arrived, and Otto woke up on the sofa.

He had to admit, the sofas in high-end hotels really were comfortable to sleep on. As for why he was not sleeping in the bed, that depended on whether Kiana was willing to let him sleep in the same bed as her.

And at least for now, Kiana probably was not willing.
