Background / History

Mei is the daughter of Raiden Ryoma. Before the events in Changkong City, Ryoma tried to shield her from Honkai-related affairs and allowed her to live as an ordinary student despite her Innate Stigmata. His imprisonment left her isolated, mistrustful of adults seeking to exploit her family’s position, and subject to ostracism at Senba Academy 20 21.

When Otto approached her at Senba Academy, Mei initially treated him with the same suspicion she held toward others who claimed to be her father’s friend. Otto revealed that Cocolia had framed Ryoma and targeted Mei because of the Conquest Gem sealed inside her. He warned that its awakening could cause a Great Honkai in Changkong City, then pressured Mei to cooperate by promising to help control her power, rescue Ryoma, and clear his name 21 25.

The Conquest Gem subsequently awakened Mei as the Herrscher of Thunder. Her body was initially taken over by a separate Herrscher personality, but that personality remained with Mei after the immediate crisis rather than disappearing 22 23. Mei later came under Schicksal’s protection and learned that the voice she had once mistaken for her own destructive thoughts was her Herrscher persona 223.

Mei reunited with Ryoma through a video call arranged by Schicksal. She was relieved to see him, while Ryoma—though grateful that she was unharmed—warned her to stay away from both Cocolia and Schicksal 60. She ultimately chose not to leave Schicksal with him, remaining there and promising to visit him instead 75 78.

At Schicksal, Mei was publicly recognized as the Third Herrscher and assigned to train under Fu Hua. She resolved to use her power to protect Otto after learning that the Will of Honkai had controlled her body 173 174.

Mei is a tall young woman with long purple hair and violet eyes. At Senba Academy, she wears a black sailor uniform and black stockings; her otherwise plain clothing does not diminish her refined, elegant bearing 20.

Mei is initially guarded and distrustful, shaped by repeated attempts to deceive or exploit her after her father’s imprisonment. She does not accept Otto’s claim of being Ryoma’s friend at face value, noting that she had heard similar words from others before 20.

Beneath her aloof exterior, Mei is deeply filial and sensitive. Learning that Ryoma’s imprisonment was connected to Cocolia’s plans for her causes her guilt, anger, and regret 21. Her reunion with him is emotional, and she remains invested in repairing their strained relationship 60 751.

Mei is caring and diligent in everyday life. She learns to cook because Otto asks to eat food she made, and she continues trying despite her inexperience 34 223. She is also protective of people close to her, though her Herrscher persona sometimes expresses that protectiveness through extreme and possessive suggestions 223 488.
