When Downton's declaration fell, the private room fell into absolute silence.
Falcone had not heard such a resolute declaration as Downton's in far too long.
Over the past thirty years, he had stood at the very pinnacle of Gotham, witnessing far too much madness and hysteria.
But madness did not make him feel fear, and hysteria certainly did not stir his pity; only this calm certainty from Downton made him realize that he was growing old.
Watching Falcone's gaze gradually settle, Downton leaned lazily against the sofa.
Falcone was thinking about how to deal with him, yet Downton was thinking exactly the same thing as Falcone.
If an enemy like himself were to appear before him, how would he handle such a person?
In the midst of their thoughts, the silence held for a time, until a knock sounded at the door.
Downton and Falcone's focus instantly centered on that door; Falcone watched Downton, while Downton gripped his gun.
"Enter."
Falcone finally gave his permission, and the door was slowly pushed open.
A moment later, a woman with an impeccable figure and face, carrying a silver tray, appeared in Downton's eyes.
Seeing the woman, Falcone first let out a breath of relief, then couldn't help but frown and ask.
"Why is it you?"
And while Falcone was asking, Downton, after a slight moment of shock, blurted out.
"Anne Hathaway!"
"It's Selina Kyle."
Selina set Falcone's inquiry aside and flashed a vibrant, brilliant smile at Downton.
"It seems outdated pickup lines can still strike a chord. I hope you remember my name; it would be my honor, sir."
After responding to Downton, Selina looked at Falcone and bowed slightly.
"Mr. Falcone, a room with only you and Mr. Downton is heavy with tension. The other girls were all terrified; it was only fitting that I bring these in."
"Get out."
Watching Selina's trademark formulaic smile, Falcone frowned slightly and waved her away.
Dismissed by Falcone, Selina nodded slightly, then glanced curiously at Downton once more.
Was this the "dead soul" who made her so-called father feel wary?
The ability to return from the dead, a brain that seemed perhaps decent enough, and reckless, brute-like methods?
This combination was indeed somewhat interesting, but why would Falcone be wary of him? Did he possess ambitions similar to Falcone's?
Selina disliked ambition; the sky and freedom were her only loves and pursuits.
However, if the dead soul could help her take revenge, then even if he were detestable, she could make a little contact.
Besides, the dead soul was a young man, which was good news for her.
So, as she walked to the door, she happened to look back, as if she had just noticed Downton was still watching her, and offered him a perfectly timed, shy smile.
Little men are the easiest to hook~
To the side, watching the way Selina's legs, wrapped in black silk stockings, crossed as she left.
Downton blinked in appreciation.
Opposite him, noticing the appreciation in Downton's eyes, Falcone gave a light cough.
"What are you coughing for? Can't an old guy like you empathize with a young man like me anymore?"
Downton waved a hand at Falcone and continued to look at the closed door.
"Look at that dame just now—she was fucking incredible. I almost couldn't help but bend over. A woman like that must be spectacular in bed. I believe every man who sees her has the same thought as me; it's just that hypocrites refuse to say it out loud. As for you, dare you say you haven't thought that way? Old Falcone, can you even get it up anymore?"
While mocking Falcone, Downton picked up the red wine and poured himself a glass.
Listening to the sound of the wine splashing into the goblet, Falcone tapped his fingers on the table.
"If I were you, I wouldn't say things like that in front of me, because she is my daughter."
"Pfft!!!"
Hearing Falcone's words, Downton, who had just raised his glass for a sip, sprayed it out violently.
Holding the glass in disbelief, Downton stared wide-eyed at Falcone.
"Selina Kyle is your daughter?!!"
"Why so surprised? Her mother was just as alluring as she is; can't a young man make a mistake?"
Falcone frowned suspiciously. At this moment, he was certain that Downton must know this daughter he refused to acknowledge, but...
Through what channel did he manage to grasp all this information?
This channel was far too interesting; he even knew about the obscure cooperation between the Court of Owls and the League of Assassins, yet he didn't know that Selina was his own daughter?
At this moment, Downton couldn't help but laugh. What a hodgepodge Gotham City was!
He had only been here for a single day, and just look at the people he had already encountered.
The Penguin and Falcone from the Gotham TV series, the Selina Kyle from the Nolan trilogy, and Alfred from the Arkham City game—and yet, the relationship between Selina Kyle and Falcone was actually from the The Batman movie version!
At this moment, Downton was incredibly curious: which version would the yet-to-appear Batman be?
It couldn't be, could it? It wouldn't be the Ben Affleck version of Batman from the Justice League, would it?
That thing was vicious!
But then again, Batman was always vicious!
For a moment, Downton couldn't help but imagine what it would be like when he and Batman finally crossed paths.
With his own abilities, combined with Batman's sense of responsibility...
The guy would probably arrest him eight times a day!
Even the Joker took a year or so to break out of prison, but he himself didn't even wait overnight to escape!
Downton began to look forward to it. If he could consume all of Batman's time by himself, how would Batman handle it?
Just as Downton was chuckling to himself, the door was knocked on once again.
In an instant, Downton tightened his grip on his gun.
Since the last knock brought the wine and food he had ordered, this knock must be the person he had asked for!
But for some reason, Falcone no longer felt that heavy air from before. Watching him, already prepared to kill, Falcone instead smiled imperceptibly.
Click.
After the door was pushed open, Victor and Sabatino walked in one after the other, while Selina Kyle, standing guard at the door, peered inside with curiosity.
Noticing that only Downton's glass had wine on the table, Victor walked up naturally, picked up the bottle, and poured a drink for Falcone.
Just as Victor was pouring the wine, Downton suddenly stood up.
Victor reacted quickly; the moment Downton rose, he instinctively wanted to suppress him.
But Falcone's reaction was faster than Downton's. He reached out and pressed down on Victor's hand, stopping him in his tracks.
Downton strode over to stand in front of Sabatino, meeting his scrutinizing gaze as he asked, "You're Sabatino?"
"That's me. So you're the one who had the boss bring me—!"
Bang!
Downton fired a shot into Sabatino's thigh, sending him crashing to the floor.
Stepping onto Sabatino's chest, Downton fired three more shots, hitting each of his other four limbs.
Amidst Sabatino's incredulous screams, Downton bent down and smashed the butt of his gun against Sabatino's face.
"I have to thank you, pal. If it weren't for the war between you and the Dimitrov Family, I wouldn't have known I had an immortal body. Look, aren't we fated? Since you helped me discover my immortality, I have to help you dig out your own extraordinary qualities!"
With that, Downton shoved the muzzle of his gun into Sabatino's mouth to muffle his screams.
At this moment, Sabatino looked toward Falcone, who was sitting in the distance, in utter disbelief.
He couldn't understand why Falcone would tolerate him being killed right in front of him!
Even if Falcone wanted him dead, he shouldn't have allowed him to die in his presence!
What was wrong with this world?
Bang!
With the sound of the gunshot, Sabatino went to hell, carrying his confusion about the world with him.
After admiring the state of Sabatino's corpse, Downton shook his head with a cold laugh.
"Looks like you don't have the talent."
After saying this, Downton pulled the gun out of Sabatino's mouth and gestured toward the slightly surprised gaze outside the door.
Whoosh!
That gaze vanished in an instant, and Downton sat back down across from Falcone.
Placing the pistol on the table, Downton exhaled with satisfaction and said to Falcone, "Consider me in your debt. Even though we are like fire and water, I will repay you in the future."
"No, since you've acknowledged this favor, why must you wait until the future to repay it?"
Falcone interrupted Downton, leaning his hands on the table with interest.
"You made me lose a fairly capable subordinate; the loss is too great. Since that's the case, I've decided to use your favor right here and now."
"Be my son-in-law and bring your talents to the Falcone family, Downton!"
"What the hell is this shit???"
Facing Falcone's proposal, Downton tapped the table with an amused expression.
"Are you joking!"
"This is no joke, but rest assured, I won't insult you with an illegitimate daughter like Selina; you will be marrying a legitimate daughter of the Falcone line."
"That's even worse than Selina, you've taken this joke way too far! If you had my abilities, you would know that we could never sit at the same table; a lion only acknowledges its throne by defeating another lion. The strong crave war, while the small-minded look forward to inheritance, you old geezer!"
Downton irritably downed a glass of red wine before smashing it against the wall.
"I actually wanted to have a decent meal here, considering I haven't eaten properly all day and the only steak I had was rushed. It's a pity that you, an old man who used to be so reliable, have gradually become unreliable and nauseating. Anyway, since Sabatino is already dead, I should go find my next debtor. This Gotham is getting more and more ridiculous by the day!"
As his words fell, Downton tucked his gun back into his waistband and swaggered out the door.
Noticing the rather spectacular expression Selina wore as she stood guard at the entrance, Downton grinned and pinched her cheeks.
While pulling at the flesh of her cheeks as she stared in shock, Downton said irritably.
"You still have the nerve to laugh? Your old man just said marrying you is an insult, you stupid woman. If I were you, I'd rush in there right now and leave a few deep marks on his face, just so he knows those manicured nails of yours aren't just for show! You hopeless wretch!"
